I guess you being little known has something to do with your inability to see how dumb signing that long term contract would've been. He would've gotten the Cotto fight, then what would've been next..... Sadam Ali? Then another unknown? The Linares unification has already been mandated.

It would've been really ****** to let Oscar tie him into a long term contract when GBP only cares about Canelo. The poor handling of Cotto this year showed that. He disregarded the entire Cotto fight in August to focus on MayMac and Canelo/GGG. Now he sends the ppv guy out on HBO with Sadam freaking Ali. Not Varges, Brook, Khan, Bradley, Pacman, Marquez, M Garcia, D Garcia, Horn, Broner, or Lemueix....... but Sadam freaking Ali.
This right here. GBP was just trying to use Cotto as an incentive to try and sign some guys to create a future for the company outside of Alvarez.

They've done nothing with all of their other fighters. What has the company done for any of its fighters outside of Canelo in the last two years?

Linares is only popping because we're all waiting for him to fight Mikey. Once he loses that fight no one will mention his name. What other guys do they have that's making noise?

I believe he made a wise choice. Despite, Cotto being a little bit past prime he is still actively fit, lives clean and takes care of his body. Like Mikey Garcia, he's a responsible family man who helps rear his kids. Therefore that doesn't leave much time for him to party.

Mikey seems like he's in total control of his Destiny ATM. I don't think Oscar can guide him into a better future than he can for himself.. Mikey is about being the best and ain't afraid to step in the ring with anyone. He doesn't need GB that sounded like a cheap sales pitch from Oscar

Mikey’s problem is that one, he wasted 2 prime years and he’s now 29 with 3 maybe 4 years left. There simply isn’t enough time to fight his way through enough branded guys to demand mar-key money. Garcia doesn’t have a contract with either Showtime, ESPN or HBO and can't bring PPV numbers. Mikey’s best chance is to wait out a big name, beat him, and become the cash cow others want to fight. Fighting a name like, Pac, Floyd, Cotto, Canelo or someone with an established brand is Mickey’s quickest way to the top.

In the end, Mikey just blew a golden opportunity and there is no guaranty he gets another. If what Mikey is after is a mar-key fighter for mar-key money he’ll need to cut a deal with a mar-key promoter. That’s the world we live in, it’s not the player, it’s the game.
First, EVERYONE fights for the $$$$ now a days F a Hall of Fame, we need to feed the fam.

Mickey has NO problems, his time off could be a blessing & a rest so you can't assume when his prime or peak is, everyone is different. You don't know how these so called promoters will manipulate a fighters career so let the fighter make his OWN decisions & have CONTROL of his own pockets.....

In the end Mickey knows more about the industry than you & he made what could be a good decision for himself so obviously he don't need a "mar-key" promoter. Stop supporting the system! Let the people learn the industry & make their own decisions

There's also Crawford and Loma who don't have to fight Broner to make millions of dollars. There's only one Broner in the Haymon stable.

I Got no doubt in my mind that Cotto would stretch Mikey Garcia inside 8 rounds.

I MHO, Mikey should be at GBP given his heritage and GBP's success with the Mexican and Mexican American fanbase in the west and south west. He could've been Chavez Sr. to Canelo's Tyson.

That said, why would anyone with option choose to go to work for a drug addict and alcoholic (and cross dressing ****) that has shown he will relapse at the worst possible times?

Mike would have made a minimum of $5 mil for the fight. An amount he can't possibly earn at PBC/SHO in 2 years.
Mickey probably already has 5 mill.....PBC pays the fighters more why do you think PBC went to court against TR & GB & won? Just ask DSG.
