I generally dont have a problem with oscar....but this is some obvious "lets lure mikey or spence over here and dangle this cotto fight".....to which, if im cotto, i would be alarmed......luckily sadam ali means nothing to golden boy and cotto will be fine......although im kind of disappointed in the opponent if this is indeed cottos farewell

Mikey made the right decision. De la holic tried to use a big name that's on his way out to get mikey stuck in a golden boy contract.

They can and they will. The political landscape is changing. Before long ArScum will be dead and Haymoneyless will either be in Prison or hiding from feds in Costa Rica. Then Oscar can make the best fight the best the way he fought the best and beat them all except for a 6'1 world champion 40 pounds above his first world title and the Fighter of the Decade P4P Champion Manny Pac when Oscar was old and weight drained.

Nope. He stole Canelo, and lucked into him anyway. Outside of Canelo, GBP stable is piss poor. No reason for Mikey to get tied up in that.

So Oscar gets his main event talent fighting two or three time per year on major platforms whether it be on HBO or HBO pay per view yet the elite PBC fighters fight once maybe twice a year yet Golden Boy Promotions don't know who to market there fighters? Get out of here with that nonsense.

Us fans need to separate actual boxing business from personal feelings? Oscar is a 1000 % right. This could have been for Mikey a situation like Oscar was to Mayweather and Pac. Passing a torch from one generation to another. Mikey isn't a big name yet he's right on the edge of becoming one but instead of fighting a first ballot hall of famer he's going to what a way less relevant name more than likely.

Again I'm pro fighter but in this situation Mikey has to realize it's a two way street. At this rate Mikey will only fight PBC fighters which there's absolutely nothing wrong with yet the guys are starting to sign with actual promoters so it will be interesting to see if this becomes more of a trend.

Mike should just focus on where he is now and hope he'll get the big fights at PBC. It's a long-term commitment.

Mikey’s problem is that one, he wasted 2 prime years and he’s now 29 with 3 maybe 4 years left. There simply isn’t enough time to fight his way through enough branded guys to demand mar-key money. Garcia doesn’t have a contract with either Showtime, ESPN or HBO and can't bring PPV numbers. Mikey’s best chance is to wait out a big name, beat him, and become the cash cow others want to fight. Fighting a name like, Pac, Floyd, Cotto, Canelo or someone with an established brand is Mickey’s quickest way to the top.

In the end, Mikey just blew a golden opportunity and there is no guaranty he gets another. If what Mikey is after is a mar-key fighter for mar-key money he’ll need to cut a deal with a mar-key promoter. That’s the world we live in, it’s not the player, it’s the game.
I can't disagree with any of that. Good post.

So you're a pro fighter who no one on a boxing forum have ever heard of, giving advice to a well known boxer about making smarter business decisions . Brilliant.

I guess you being little known has something to do with your inability to see how dumb signing that long term contract would've been. He would've gotten the Cotto fight, then what would've been next..... Sadam Ali? Then another unknown? The Linares unification has already been mandated.

It would've been really ****** to let Oscar tie him into a long term contract when GBP only cares about Canelo. The poor handling of Cotto this year showed that. He disregarded the entire Cotto fight in August to focus on MayMac and Canelo/GGG. Now he sends the ppv guy out on HBO with Sadam freaking Ali. Not Varges, Brook, Khan, Bradley, Pacman, Marquez, M Garcia, D Garcia, Horn, Broner, or Lemueix....... but Sadam freaking Ali.
