Only Hopkins biased fans will find a way to give him a round in the first 8 rounds of the first fight. The first fight was not even close.Originally posted by cupcrazy01I love the "he didn't do **** the first 8 or 9 rounds" argument.
WHAT?
Immediately after the fight, everyone said he didn't do anything for the first 5-6 rounds, then it became 7-8 and now it's 8-9. What will it be next year at this time? "Hopkins didn't do anything until the last round!" Come on.
Do you know what he did the first half of the fight? Guarded and gauged, studied and timed all Taylor had to offer, all the while effectively countering and making Taylor MISS the vast majority of his shots. Check the boxing press scoring. Here is an excerpt from Doug Fischer of maxboxing.com's account of how the press scored the bout. It is a part of something I wrote the Monday morning after the fight. Keep in mind, most press people hate Hopkins and love Taylor, based on demeanor and past treatment...

Steve Kim, Robert Morales (San Gabriel Valley Tribune & L.A. Daily News), Franklin McNeil (New Jersey Star-Ledger) and Ivan Goldman (The Ring) had it 117-111 for B-Hops. Joe Santoliquito (The Ring) had it 116-113 for Hopkins. Michael Katz (who covered the fight for Reuters), Max Kellerman (who was part of the HBO PPV broadcast team), Bernard Fernandez (Philadelphia Daily News), Kevin Iole (Las Vegas Review-Journal) and Paul Upham (secondsout.com) had it 115-113 for EX. The Associated Press had Hopkins up 114-113. Dan Rafael (ESPN.com) and Jerry Magee (San Diego Union-Tribune) saw it even, 114-114."
In addition, Eric Raskin of Ring Magazine had it 115-113 Hopkins.
Raskin: • My favorite line from Saturday night came from trainer Pat Burns, talking to Taylor after the fourth round: “He’s giving you a lot of respect. Take that respect away.” I think Taylor actually took Burns’ confusing advice, because by the last few rounds, Hopkins didn’t seem to be respecting his challenger at all.
HBO's Broadcast was a disgrace. I've never been more disappointed in Lamps or Harold Lederman, both of whom repeatedly talked as if Hopkins was running and posing instead of fighting, when in actuality he was reeling Taylor in, using those incredible feints and mind games to tense up the challenger, then popping him with incredibly subtle counter straights and hooks. Sure there were dirty moments, but that's boxing, and Hopkins is the best. The headbutt was clearly UNINTENTIONAL, so I don't want to hear any BS "Hopkins was scared and desperate so he headbutt Taylor."
Just because Hopkins wasn't taking the fight to Taylor until the 9th round doesn't mean he wasn't winning or wasn't in control. He CLEARLY set the pace for the bout and CLEARLY had Taylor running on empty in the last few rounds, because Hopkins--as he always does--had not only physically, but mentally executed his challenger.
You must tell people to watch the fight on mute and in slow motion. That is the only way to appreciate Hopkins' performance. Who would you have rather been after the final bell?

Maybe, but if Taylor has already put 7 or 8 rounds in the bank, how can Hopkins win by looking good over the last 4 or 5 rounds? The judges score every round, not a single vote after the 12th.
First fight was very close only if you ignore how the rounds are scored. Meaning that, Taylor won more rounds but Hopkins won the later rounds impressively. Second fight was very similar, but Taylor did a little more over the later rounds and made it a clearer win for folks who don't understand round by round scoring.Comment

1 judge (duane ford) gave taylor the 12th , when hopkins clearly won the 12th round , should have been a draw if anything , but i still think hopkins won it ...Comment

I agree but it was a political decision made not a boxing decision, see boxing wanted a young up and coming star someone who can be the Lebron James of the ring if need be, someone people could look up to like kids and younger generation to bring back the sport of boxing. Hopkins was robbed because of this, in no way should Hopkins have lost those matches. Hopkins showed us more than Taylor did in his 3 rounds of work than Taylor did in his gunshy 24 rounds. Taylor showed exactly why boxing is pathetic like it is, a champion should only lose his belt with a decisive loss from a blow out to a knock out not because boxing needs a new star. Jermain is going to lose his belt as easy as he got it and he knows it when he faces Winky. I feel bad for the kid because everyone tried to make him the star but he will always be a bum that was overhyped from day 1.Originally posted by CarminePersicohopkins had taylor badly hurt 3 times in the fight...
10th round
11th round
12 round... and i mean badly hurt, taylor was on the verge of being knocked out 3 times in the fight
hopkins won both of those fights ,
the 2nd fight was a lil closer, but again taylor was on the verge of being knocked out... and his face was on swole ... taylor won ? bull****Comment

I love the "he was the champion,so should have been giving the decision" argument.Like it's a set rule that if the champ wins the last few rounds, but no other rounds,he wins.Who wins more rounds, wins the fight. It's a clear written rule.Let's atleast follow the few clear rules boxing has.Im not going to apologize for giving Jermain more rounds than Hopkins in the first fight. It is just a opinion.I don't care what so called experts had to say.I trust my own eyes!Originally posted by cupcrazy01I love the "he didn't do **** the first 8 or 9 rounds" argument.
