No one ever said they were obligated to. You are essentially repeating my same exact point. Just because GGG was guaranteed 45% of the purse bid it didn't mean he was guaranteed 45% of the PPV split as well. So there was still things to negotiate out and Canelo could have worked out a favorable PPV split. But no, he used GGG's cut of the purse bid as one of his excuses not to take the fight.

In fairness to Canelo, he never used that as an excuse himself, it's something GGG haters came up with and started using it for him.

Where does it say they negotiated the split? It says they agreed to it because Golovkin was the interim champ.
