    holmes ud.
Larry Holmes had the footwork, jab, speed and overall superior boxing skill. I dont see why knowledgeable people would pick foreman. George knew that if he lost to larry anytime between 1987-1994, it would hurt his rep badly cuz they were both ranked fighters and they were the same age.

Larry Holmes is my 3rd ranked heavyweight of all-time.

      Ali
      Louis
      Holmes
      Foreman
      Marciano
      Johnson
      Holyfield
      Dempsey
      Frazier
      Lewis

      something like that.

I'd say he's about fourth or fifth.

Ali, Louis, Foreman, Dempsey, Holmes, Tunney, Liston, Frazier, etc.

I couldn't say you were wrong either sir. I think Foreman and Marciano are pretty much even at that 4th spot and my 7-10 spots are all dead close too.

I rate Holmes #3 behind Ali and Louis, Larry was bitter and under appreciated but he was that dammed great in his prime, critics pointed out how he was hurt and stunned couple of times by weaver and snipes and got a gift in his fights with witherspoon and carl williams, or he was fighting a weak era of the HW division, taking on opponents who had 10-15 fights, but hey ali himself got knockdown by wepner, had to cheat against henry cooper, also had gifted decisions over young and norton, louis got knockdown by tony gallento, buddy baer and so many non champions, Holmes defend his title 20 times to make 48-0 was amazing compared to marciano who defended it 6 times to make 49-0, the only time holmes got knockout was coming off a two year layoff to faced a powerful Tyson, even in his 40s, holmes earned a title shot by beating a formidable ray mercer compared to foreman, who would take on journeymans and former contenders, Holmes never had a career defining fight other than cooney because big george wouldnt want to stepped in the ring in any time with holmes, thats why larry had this bitterness whenever he talks about foreman, and lastly those stories i read on how holmes overpowered Ali in their sparring matches just goes to show how great holmes was.

agreed, holmes-norton ranks up there as one of the greatest prize fights ever, it was thought to be so close til the end but holmes won it clearly, the worse is 9-6 in favor of holmes.

I get the feeling people say george would beat larry cuz he's more popular. Larry would have exposed him worse than young and lyle did. Those guys are holmes wannabes, larry is to slick and that's all i have to say.

If he was'nt robbed in that Spinks fight he would have broke Marciano's record and would be considered even greater than he is is...
