Shavers was like the Tyson of the 70's. Holmes was on unsteady legs when they fought but he went on to win. Prime Holmes would have won by UD over the shorter Tyson.

Yes, Yes he was highly underrated.Originally posted by ParodyThe guy defended his Title 20 times and was a world champion for 7 years, 1978-1985, yet people dont rate him that much...all of his losses came when he was out of his prime and he was the first person that could have broke Marciano's 49-0 record..and if you think about it he should only have 3 losses, Tyson, Spinks and Holyfield..
I think he's top 5 all time material, somewhere behind Louis, Ali and Foreman.
Or Ali before Louis, or whatever.

I found Holmes' fights with the likes of Norton, Shavers, Weaver, Cooney, L. Spinks, Snipes, Witherspoon, etc., anything but boring myself, and I don't think too many who saw those fights would use the term "boring" when describing them.Originally posted by hemichromishe was good but he was a very defensive fighter, and not in an ali way, thats why the masses think of him as boring and so dont pay him much attentionComment

Yes, he is. I personally rank him #3 on my All-Time list; but a case could be made for Larry Holmes being the G.O.A.T.Originally posted by ParodyThe guy defended his Title 20 times and was a world champion for 7 years, 1978-1985, yet people dont rate him that much...all of his losses came when he was out of his prime and he was the first person that could have broke Marciano's 49-0 record..and if you think about it he should only have 3 losses, Tyson, Spinks and Holyfield..
Oh, it's true....the case could be made if you look at his in-ring accomplishments.Comment

I finally agree with you, well maybe its cuz i'm a blind larry holmes mark.If Holmes could get up from that right hand by Shavers, which looked more devastating than anything I've ever seen Foreman throw, he would not be at much of a risk of losing by a knockout to Foreman.
Holmes had the better jab, footwork, and ring smarts as well as an even stronger chin than Foreman IMO. I would favor Holmes in this fight for sure.Comment

In your opinion, what are larry's 10 biggest wins. Do you think he would beat foreman, i think he would have made a fool out of foreman.Comment
