What fans need to understand is that sanctioning organizations exist because promoters want them to exist. Promoters could create their own championships, but instead they hire sanctioning bodies to create the illusion of independence. The sanctioning bodies provide a service to the promoters. A service the promoters desire and choose to hire them to provide.

If there were no more sanctioning bodies, you would simply have a Top Rank champion, a PBC champion, an HBO champion, an Eddie Hearn champion, a Frank Warren champion, a Teiken champion, a GYM champion, etc in every division.

If it wasn't for the sanctioning bodies, there would be WAYYYYYY more than four "world" champions in each division.

Sure, we'd be happy to elaborate.

Two years ago, Top Rank sued PBC to try to force them to give up ESPN so Top Rank could pursue their plan to leave HBO for ESPN.

So a few months after that, PBC began financing a lawsuit against the WBO on behalf of one of their fighters as bankrupting the WBO would be devastating to Top Rank's business.

PBC has a lot of control over the WBC and WBA, as well as a strong relationship with the IBF. Top Rank is essentially solely focused on the WBO, controlling the majority of the WBO's champions and being the driving force in maintaining the WBO's status as a major body.

If the WBO went out of business, Top Rank would go from having nearly a dozen world champions to having nearly zero world champions. All of their eggs are in the WBO basket and the preferential treatment they receive from the WBO is the only thing preventing Haymon from achieving a full monopoly.

Although I'm not a fan of frivolous litigation, the WBO of late has really made a mockery of its rankings system.

We now have Cotto who last fought two years ago for the WBC MW strap automatically put in a position to fight Kamegai for the WBO JMW title. How did he earn that ranking?

I bet this all came about because the WBO demanded fees and Trouts team refused.

Also according to BoxRec, Trout has a potential date with IBF champ Jarret Hurd for 14th Oct. Apart from that, he's fought almost exclusively for WBA/WBC titles.

I guess I just don't understand or can't unravel the mind boggling labyrinth of boxing politics.

Hope Trouts wins this case, because that situation was f.ucking bullsh.it

The WBO been real shifty, In 2015 when they Dropped Trout and gave Quillen the draw against Lee ( Quillen possibly being the last Haymon affiliated fighter with a WBO strap? ) was a clear sign that they aren't f.ucking with Haymon

I took a Look at their rankings they migh have 4-5 Haymon fighters even in their rankings. Their WW Rankings are laughable.
