Yh just looking now. Castillo wasn't even still campaigning at 135 by the time they moved up so not sure how they ducked him?
He moved up to 140 after the Corrales rematch.
They didn't even move up to 135 until years after that.

His first fight at 140 was in 2006.
Manny didn't move up until June 08, Barrera not until March 09 vs Khan and Morales not until August 08.

Pretty much impossible they ducked him.

It's funny watching Floyd fans suggest Canelo was prime at age 22, but Gervonta Davis is too young for Loma.

Cotto was damaged goods, and once he teamed up with Roach actually became an improved, more complete fighter. Wasn't at his best for Floyd.

Remember, Floyd "retired" to avoid a rematch with Oscar (a fight he was given a gift decision) and to avoid prime Pac, Cotto, Mosley, and Paul Williams.

He called out Winky Wright, when Wright called his bluff, Floyd shut his mouth and ran the other way.

Marquez came up two weight classes for a catch weight that Floyd didn't make. He was drinking his own urine to prepare for that fight, not whatever Memo was juicing him with.

          Very handy fighter I just don't think he's quite what I'd call A class/level.
          I don't know I disagree.

Best Lightweight of the last era for me money.

Johnston, Casamayor, Corrales, Lazcano, Bazan, Diaz and arguably Mayweather.

His resume is damn good. Better than Corrales' for me, even though Corrales knocked him out but that was one of the best fights of all time.

            Corrales

Castillo (Mayweather beat him in the rematch)

Marquez was A-Level. Yes he moved up two divisions and got cheated on the scales but that doesn't mean he wasn't A level.

sure. castillo arguably beat floyd, making the second win at the very least a win over a fighter at the very top. corrales was actually top 5ish p4p at the time of the floyd fight, and floyd destroyed him. hatton was undefeated, and while he was probably already on the sldie with all that drinking and punch-taking, he was still the lineal 140 lb champion and a very good fighter, and floyd beat him up.

              historic "A level?"
no. they're what you call "very good," not great fighters. but very few fighters have prime all time greats on their resumes, and floyd is still an all time great without one because he was at the pinnacle of the sport for almost 20 years and dominant in almost all of his fights.

Yeah TKO but it didn't knock him out and the stoppage was iffy at best. Corrales hurt him at the end of the 6th.

And he came back and beat him in the rematch.

that version of marquez would have lost to virtually any decent welterweight. it was only after he hooked up with a self professed, known steroid guru that he looked like anything other than a chubby featherweight moving up for the money. which he was, until he went trhough puberty again at the ripe age of 39

how good the fight was also shadows the arguably disqualify-able spitting of the mouthpiece. no shame in losing that fight. a better refereeing job and you'd probably see that fight end in a DQ. depends on whether or not you want to see action, or the rules being followed to a T. i preferred the outcome obviously because of how epic the last round was, but definitely wasn't fair,a nd you can aruge that it allowed the lesser fighter to win.
