Rigondeaux isn't a professional ATG based on his career and he may not be because of his age, but he's one of the most talented boxers alive. It's why they started him off the way they did and why he got Donaire as early as he did in his career.

What's happened since then is a combination of out-of-the-ring choices, managerial incompetence, diplomatic disaster among the boxing elitists and bad timing. But there's a definite reason why he is rated so highly and you can make anyone sound unimpressive if you want to. It's pretty easy. Teddy Atlas, who is a notorious hardass who isn't even vaguely interested in helping hype jobs get hyped, even for ESPN, when they were bringing Rigo in, Atlas said when he watched him fight as an amateur he thought he might be the greatest amateur in history. Things like that come out of Atlas' mouth, you should pay attention, even if he might be wrong. If you're in the know, you know Rigo's a huge talent, at least.
This pretty much sums it up.

It wasn't a close fight at all. Donaire won 2 rounds max from what I remember. He got a KD but he got it when they were in the clinch, Donaire broke it, hit Rigo with a short left hook , he went down and got back up instantly. Shiet happens. It's not like they were in the middle of an echange and he got caught with something big. But Rigo controlled every second of that fight.

Donaire was exposed that night as a one trick pony: no ability to cut the ring off, terrible defence, was only looking to land his ******ed left hook. He got outclassed. But he was top 5 P4P at the time and coming off a impressive streak so that win was big.

That said, Rigo doesn't belong to the P4P list anymore and I'm a big fan of his. He can't live off that win forever. Yes he's got the skills but his level of opposition is subpar and we don't really know where he is now as a fighter because he's been fighting no-hopers for years now.

He's kind of like Ward when he was coming off his 2 year break: the skills is there, has big wins on his resume and the potential to be a top P4P but hasn't done anthing in the recent history to prove it.

Rigo is the most overrated fighter of the last 20 years.

He's black and fights on the back foot = automatic top ten p4p.

If he's that highly rated, then Nonito is no hype job at all if you go by the overrating.
Otherwise, that win won't mean much.
Who can forget the hate Donaire got on this board claiming he's just a nobody?
Rigo beats a nobody and he gets all these accolades as if he beat Glovkin.
              Kills me.

Terence Crawford did an AMA on Reddit recently and had this to say in response to the question, 'Who is the most underrated boxer in the game right now?':

"I would have to say Rigondeaux. A lot of people don't give him all the credit he deserves. I think he's a great boxer as well as a fighter."

I absolutely have no idea. He beat a guy four years ago which his fans themselves have been claiming for years was just an overrated hype job. So he basically beat a hype job. And now his fans are acting as if he beat Golovkin just recently.

Just imagine GGG fighting all these sub par opponents he's been fighting for four years.

Ward thinks very highly of Rigo as well. Andre recently said he thinks Rigo is P4P #1. Crawford and Ward are far from alone. Guillermo is thought of very highly by those in the know. It's really not difficult to see if you've been a boxing fan long enough.
