Hopkins vs De La Hoya produced 1 million pay-per-view buys, generating a $56 million revenue... therefore???... is Canelo "greater" than De La Hoya?... or GGG greater than B-Hop?...

It's the most important fight between active boxers right now. It was Mayweather-Pacquiao, they had their turn in 2015 as the biggest fight to make. Then it was Ward vs Kovalev for Ring/WBA/WBO/IBF. Now it's Canelo-GGG's turn for the Ring/WBC (only for GGG)/WBA/IBF. It's a huge PPV worthy fight. DLH has to sell it though, he's the promoter.

Not to long ago, Canelo ran scared and gave up his WBC belt to avoid and duck GGG. They were saying how he isn't a big draw and he fought nobody. Then the rumors start popping up that Mayweather is coming back and DeLoya starts to get shaken up and NOW decides to make the Canelo vs GGG fight on Mexico holiday (made fight out of fear because of Mayweather). The great business man and team that Mayweather has counters and makes his fight before Canelo vs GGG and they steal all his glory. All we see on ESPN and all the boxing sites is Mayweather vs GGG. DeLoya bashes this fight and then I go on Utube and watch/hear DeLoya say he would make Canelo vs McCregor and it will be a great fight at 160 lb. DeLoya is a fraud!

i agree with you, as an event this fight could bigger than any other at mw, as a boxing fight or importance in history it will be lucky to get in the top 5...

It will sell more that Hagler/Hearns, but historically, it pales in comparison. These guys aren't as good as Hagler or Hearns. I don't think GGG is nearly as popular with casuals, and Canelo is lucky he has a built in audience. It's like saying this fight is the Taylor Swift of boxing events. It will sell a lot.

NOBODY knows whether it will become an atg fight like that was,but on paper it is definitely"bigger" as far as matchups & styles go combined with worldwide appeal.
Actually, if you listen to Hagler, he said that he knew Hearns was more skilled. That's why Marvin knew that he had to make it a war. He was worried that Hearns would outpoint him with his jab alone.

... in fact ODLH said: "... in terms of magnitude, in terms of PR, in terms of attention that it’s receiving, in terms of people that will be watching, yes, this has to be the biggest."... of course, but in the same terms, Floyd's "exhibition" will be the biggest! (especially if they don't make weight!)

I think it's safe to say this is the biggest MW fight since Hagler-Leonard or maybe Hopkins-Trinidad.
Yes. I would say it's probably bigger than bhop-trinidad

If it is just about money with today's inflated prices it probably is as for quality we can start with Sugar Ray Robinson and work from him...
