When I mean a "big" fight, I mean "popular." I don't think Canelo is as big as ODLH, although he's getting closer. If he beats GGG, that might do the trick! GGG is about the same level of popularity as B-Hop was at that time.

OK, Oscar maybe in terms of PPV but not in terms of fights and fighters. Oscar doesn't have to look at the historical names and GOAT's of yesteryear but surely he can still remember the 1980's; Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, Duran, et al.

Really Oscar? Biger than Hagler-Leonard? Put the drink and the women's underwear down! This guy is always saying crazy things recently.

It's the biggest fight this year that's for sure.

With all due respect to one of my favourite fighters of all time, and one of the best in my opinion, Oscar De La Hoya, the Canelo-Golovkin fight is nowhere near the best middleweight fight. It is not 'probably' the biggest either. Hagler-Leonard and Hagler Hearns were far bigger n greater matchups and fighters, not to mention a few great opponents that 'Sugar' Ray Robinson fought.

Bottom line is that they dont make them like they used to anymore, nobody can ever measure up to those greats as they had each other to make them great, but come on you guys all know that in this day & age this is as big as they come as both are in their prime & CLEARLY the best fight that can be made at this moment just as hagler hearns, hagler leonard was in their moment,& those guys have the benefit of nostalgia combined with everyone now knowing the amazing outcome that that fight was,of course until another fight ends up like that will anyone know how good this fight is. Its only afterwards that people truly know how much of a war those fights were. But as far as worldwide attention this fight is enormous because of the internet alone, back then they didn't get paid much,& they didn't have the worldwide promotion & level of access as they do now. I think this fight can go down as an atg,as they both have extremely crowd pleasing styles, while leonard was imo top 3 atg,his style was far from being called crowd pleasing,& both these guys are much more similar than Hagler leonard who were as opposite as they come.

It's a big fight. But this should already be their second in a trilogy by now. THAT would be a bigger fight.

Got you. Yeah maybe about the same. I think Golovkin is little bigger even here in the States (and much more worldwide) than Hops was. I don't think Canelo gets ever bigger than ODLH. But he wins and he'll be maybe the biggest Mexican legend since JCC Sr.

As an illustration of how popular ODLH was compared to B-Hop, Oscar made B-Hop come to a catch-weight, yet Canelo had to go to the full 160!

This is not as big as Oscar makes it out to be and that is no surprise. The thing is that I don't see much else after this fight other than a rematch. If it wasn't for Canelo's Mexican following, this would get just a little more buzz than the Ward-Kovalev fight.
