its actually pretty simple, GGG wants to unify 160
Why does GGG get a pass for ducking Andre Ward?

This is very true. The media has guys they want to push and guys they don't want to push. Golovkin was made into the new Boogeyman by crushing lots of overmatched opponents. He's their next hype machine, but it's not just how you win it's who you do it against and until he does it against an elite fighter who's at least as big as him I can't put him on that pedestal of being p4p#2 or whatever.By doing out access/patronage to the boxing press, HBO and the "old guard promoters" (Top Rank, Oscar, Main Events, K2) control the message that gets to the general sports media (Outside of Floyd, who was built into so big a star that he undercuts most of what HBO pushes against him).
HBO spent 4 years, spinning the public with their stories of Golovkin being the new wrecking machine (by being kept busy against soft opposition, Golovkin was able to deliver the performances to keep to HBO's story).
Andre Ward was counter to the story, so HBO/old-guard basically got the boxing media to not push/mention.Comment

He could've gone up just for one fight then gone back down.
Imagine if Tommy Hearns said he didn't want to fight Hagler because he wanted to unify the belts at 154. It's a cop-out and an excuse and not a very good one.Comment

Read the thread and you'll understand. His team put out a press release saying he wanted to fight the biggest names anyone from 154 to 168. I didn't matter who.
Ward made an offer for 50-50 and they rejected without negotiating.Comment

Same reasons why people don't give **** to Hopkins, Hangler, and other MWs that domintaed their division. If a boxer wants to unify a division, so be it. Not many try to.Comment

I respect his right to do that but these guys didn't run around saying they were the most feared people in boxing and that they would take fights from 154 to 168 because nobody would fight them. If he didn't say that I wouldn't hold him to these standards but he said he would fight at 168 then when the best guy at that weight pulled his card, he backtracked faster than you can say "Andre Ward"
He always could've took the fight then moved back down and tried to unify the division after like Wilfredo Gomez and other greats did. It's not like once you go up you can never go back down. He knows this, they just needed an excuse.Comment
