Unless ESPN and/or Fox Sports covers the sport it's marginal. This fight being on ESPN is huge for boxing.

You have to bring big time fights to ESPN and Fox News - forget HBO and Showtime - a thing of the past. They aren't real sports networks.

Pacquiao is the second biggest star in the sport and hasn't been on basic cable ever I don't think. His fights have always been on premium cable or PPV.

So fans were interested in seeing him and this is a good way to kick off the ESPN collaboration. But will his next fight be on the network or is it back to pay per view?

That's something to keep in mind going forward. It would be nice to get these numbers all the time but I don't expect it.

Arum and ESPN have made a big deal about this not being on PPV....would be a bad look go immediately back to PPV.

(Not that Arum cares that much about how it "looks" but ESPN probably would and this is supposed to be a two-way commitment.)

Plus, even with the audience and controversy, Horn doesn't seem big enough name to sell that many PPV's....especially if they stage it outside the US.

yeah, I hope they dont put Horn on PPV, I hope his next fight is on ESPN he established himself here even if they hate him winning his name is now known, people will tune in to see him lose. But in Australia he will draw big gates, and sell big on PPV at 55 dollars a pop so the man is a instant star already.

If Pac and Horn rematch they should put it on ABC instead of ESPN, it will be a huge event, people might ***** about the decision but realize they didnt pay for it so they will be amped to see a rematch even as washed up as Manny is, its the Tyson effect with Manny people remember his beast mode days and like with Tyson dream of seeing that beast come out one last time.

They should also do a 24/7 type countdown on ESPN for big fights
