It's only a debate at all because some folks are putting a guy we all know was a great heavyweight on an even higher pedestal that in truth he doesn't merit.

If Marciano's era was like Mayweathers then Charles would have been a champ, Moore would have been a champ, Lastarza would have been a champ, Louis would have been champ when Marciano fought him, Walcott was champ, Rex Layne would have been champ, Lee Savold would have been champ, Matthews would have been champ, and ****ell would have been champ. That's 9 in just 4 years in ONE division.

Unfortunately Marciano had nowhere to move up to so he had no real options other than retire because there wasn't anybody left to fight.

the man who beat the man is one champion, lineal champion.....Mosley, Judah, Cotto, ODLH, Pacquaio, G. Hernanez, Castillo, Mosley, Hatton, Corrales, Baldomir, Marquez all won lineal titles and various major alphabet titles


Genaro hernandez held the wbc and wba and was undefeated at 130 until mayweather beat him in only his 18th pro fight

De La Hoya was lineal in 3 divisons and won major titles in 3 others

Mosley was lineal at 147 and won titles in 2 other divisions

corrales lineal at 135 and held wbo, wbc there and ibf at 130

no matter how you try to spin it...mayweather simply fought and beat better overall competition and accomplished more than him.
