You know wny he didn't punch back because he was never punched in the balls in the first place. He slicked a can of oil on you boxing fans.

The man's a liar and a cheat. He was feigning an injury from low blows because he was physically and mentally exhausted and was looking for a way out.

In addition, there were three reasons why Tony Weeks called a halt to their bout: One Kovalev wasn't throwing anything back. Two, he was getting caught flush with clean shots to both the body and head and wasn't protecting himself.

Then lastly, because he was sitting on the ropes, with a look of resignation and defeat on his face. He wanted the fight over. He simply had the body language of a broken fighter.

You clearly see Ward landed low blows on him. Watch the videos.

          Ward is better than him

but they were the first comments from Kovalev that did not sound like excuses

I think he is 100% correct

sounds to me like he wants to be better than Ward, so that he can beat Ward..... possibly at cruiser

he obviously needs a new trainer

          I think this is positive

those comments sound a lot better than they did after the first fight

how were they ever going to improve, and make the necessary adjustments, without admitting what went wrong?

Sometimes a fighter needs that kind of reality check to recognize they need a better trainer or need to actually listen to a trainer. Reminds of what happened with cotto. He basically trained himself for yrs but once he stepped in with pac, he realized how outgunned he was strategically vs a fighter that he should've been much more competitive with. That's when he hired steward, and so forth. Maybe Kovalev has come to the same conclusion.

Kovalev can erase this set back if he stays at 175 and beats Stevenson or even Beterbiev. There's some stiff competition at CW especially if Ward moves up. It looks like Kovalev is over analyzing this loss. He's good enough to beat most LHWs but Ward is a different fighter. I doubt even Hunter could help him with that.

It's amusing that this is happening because, from the Kova fans' comments after the fight, you'd think nothing went wrong for Kovalev other than Ward going below the belt on the last punch.

But yet here is Kovalev talking a new trainer, a new weight class etc etc.

Only for you there will be that debate! Kovalev did not mention low blows, dirty tactics, nothing. He admitted defeat and a desire to get better and be a better fighter than Ward even to go as far as to entertain Virgil Hunter training him - stop being delusional, he is a human, not Drago - he lost 2 times to Ward, its official....
