Did he quit after being doubled over by those first boderline low blows?
How is Kovalev being hurt by those punches supposed to justify Ward hitting him in the nuts later in the round, and Weeks then awarding him the win?
Why didn't the ref give him a chance to carry on fighting after he'd being fouled again?
How do you know he quit when he wasn't given a chance to carry on?
Why did Weeks take no action over a blatent low blow, 6 inches below the waist, that happened right in front of his eyes?
If he believed that Kovalev had been sent down by a legit punch, why didn't he start a count, instead of waving the fight off?Last edited by kafkod; 06-20-2017, 10:32 PM.Comment

True, but it changes the set of information Tony Weeks had to base his decision on. The guy who was getting beat pretty badly that round, looking gassed, wobbled by a big shot upstairs, showing weak body language, is sitting on the ropes eating body shots and not meaningfully defending himself or fighting back.
I think Weeks may have stopped the fight whether or not Ward threw the last shot at all.
Not that I think stopping the fight was the best call, for the record.Comment

Yes he did. He was no longer protecting himself and didnt take a knee. The ref had justification to stop the fight then and there, but he gave Sergey another chance. When he did it again later in the round, the ref had no choice but to stop the fight.
Andre Ward stopped Sergey Kovalev. Read it back if you have to.Comment

You mean the headlocks and rabbit punching by Kovalev? If you are not upset about that then shut your pussie ass up. As for as Joshua there is a current Black heavyweight champion who has been calling him out.
Wilder would gladly come there and take them straps off him like Spence beat the shyt out of Brook made him quit and took those fuucking straps. That's what we do.
Ward beat the dog shyt out of Kovalev, had that man running around the ring got caught in the corner and stopped. Stay mad pussieComment

First of all shut your f@ggot ass up. those were legal shots. How did you feel about Kovalev's rabbit punching and putting Ward in the fuucking headlock like 5 times???
Oh and your f@ggot ass said Ward wouldn't even take the fight. A year later he beat that ass twice stopped his hoe ass on the ropes the second fight.
AND STILL UNDEFEATED PUSSIEComment

A dead man walking .. are you kidding?
Kovalev was fine till he was hurt by 2 borderline low body punches in the 8th round, then one hard punch to the head, and that was it ... till Ward pushed him to the ropes and hit him with what looked like 3 hard low blows, only one of which was picked up by the camera definitely landing low.
Kovalev wasn't half dead, he was hurt by a foul punch and sat down on the bottom rope waiting for the ref to do something about it. Even if Weeks genuinely didn't see that Kovalev had been fouled, he should have given him a count at that point, not just waved off a fight that was evenly balanced, with the end of the round only seconds away.
Ward was dropped hard in their first fight, but the ref didn't just wave it off, he gave Ward a count and a chance to recover and get back into the fight.
Weeks didn't act on Ward's fouls and he didn't give Kovalev a count because he was doing what you biased hypocrites are always accusing UK refs of doing .. looking for an excuse to stop the fight and give the win to the home fighter.
Kovalev turned his back on Ward TWICE in that round
it is extremely rare to see a veteran do anything like that
he was done !!
Weeks knew it, and so did Ward
if Kovalev had a spade, he would have dug an escape tunnel
when he faked a foul after those two LEGIT body-shots, that was the equivalent of taking a dive
he was done, and looking for a way out

you do know that borderline is perfectly legal, right ?
and you CAN see that those punches were both legal, right ?
" he was hurt by 2 borderline low body punches in the 8th round, then one hard punch to the head, and that was it "
pity for Kovalev that he couldn't shake off that LEGIT body-work and that clean right-hand as easily as you just did..... right?
