Comments Thread For: Kovalev Angry About Purse Discrepancy for Ward Rematch

The Rigo statement was an exaggeration. I thought he had a minumum guarantee of $1 million in Roc Nation for some reason.
Kovalev is the only fighter on that card with no guaranteed purse and this is not something you see for a PPV headliner. If you point me to a major PPV fight where a headlining fighter had a $0 guarantee I will stand corrected. It's 100% understandable why he's angry about this situation.
You've got the Mayweather/McGregor announcement and this fight hasn't been promoted very well. He's taking all the risks from being the one in the ring and taking punches to worrying about if the event sells and not even knowing much he will get paid.
He had a $2 million guarantee the first fight so why couldn't they at least match that?
Duva probably should have guaranteed Kov at least a million or two just for appearance sake, but since its hard to envision a scenario where Kov ends up with less than $2 million, it probably doesnt matter all that much.
Someone else pointed out the Jones-Hopkins rematch deal as something similar. It really isnt though, because even though it was a revenue share deal, Jones agreed to let Hopkins/GBP get the first 3.5 million of profit, Jones would have got the next 3.5 million, and then they split the rest. Problem for Jones was the event did not turn a profit that exceeded the first $3.5 million, so it all went to GBP/Hops.....Comment

Simple mathematics tells you they are going to lose money.
As for their "demise", their owner (Jay-Z) is a billionaire, so I doubt losing a few million here and there is going to keep him up at night. The "demise" will happen when he loses interest in this vanity brand......Comment

Scenario #1: Novice promotional company with less than 5 shows under their belt discovers new revenue streams that no other promoter in the history of the sport knows about.
OR
Scenario #2: Bored billionaire starts vanity brand and doesnt care about minor hits to his overall net worth.

I will just reiterate what I said yesterday, Kovalev if he wins needs to fire everyone on his whole team, because Kovalev is putting in work but everyone else is just along for the ride.
What has Main Event really ever done for him other than get him a couple fights on NBCSN to get the ball rolling. From there any sentient being could have accomplished what they have and might have done better. With this fight literally a dog could have got Kovalev this deal, and at least in that case the payment would be in dog treats which would be a fitting payment for such a bad deal.
His manager for allowing such non-sense should be gone also, unless he is working on the Main Event exit as we speak. I would still ace him out at the first opportunity because everyone needs to know he can't be walked over so he can't survive either.
Jackson, I like him as a trainer and I could see keeping him just to keep some continuity but I would be bringing in a second guy that I could go to in the future at the very least.Comment

hmmmmm, lets see which scenario is more likely.......

See, THIS is why Kovalev keeps grinding on Back Ward. He HAS to sell tickets to get paid! Which is b.s. Anyone with a working pulse knows who the action fighter is, who the one is who ISN'T as boring as watching paint dry. Back Ward can't even sell out small arenas in his hometown for God's sake. Not that Kovalev sells out big arenas, but he certainly moves move tickets than Mr Boring Headbutter. I'll be as glad as Kovalev when he KOs this Back Ward chump and moves on to the next fight... one where he will be respected again.Comment

No. He's just finding out how much Ward is getting paid and he knows he's getting screwed. His anger is misdirectedComment
