this is one of those scenarios where outsiders who dont know how the sport operates really should keep quiet instead of acting like a relatively common practice is some sort of outrage

The chances are about 100% that in the instance you highlighted, Fonfara's actual purse was paid by someone else, like his actual promoter or manager who agreed to cover the purse in order to get their guy on Kathy's card. However, most commissions requires that the lead promoter actually present a purse check to every fighter on the card (even if they are being paid by someone else), therefore checks for $1.00 are not uncommon. Florida always required us to make them at least $10.00. So for example when Luis Ortiz' people asked if I could put him on my show and they would cover the purses, I still had to pay Ortiz and his opponent each a $10.00 check, even though they were being paid their actual purses by someone else.

I'm still trying to figure out how all these people are so sure that Roc Nation is losing money. I keep hearing the references to Ward and Cotto being overpaid. When is the RNS demise that has been predicted going to happen. Are they losing money or using boxing to promote other ventures? Can one of these accountants and MBAs tell me?

Simple mathematics tells you they are going to lose money.

As for their "demise", their owner (Jay-Z) is a billionaire, so I doubt losing a few million here and there is going to keep him up at night. The "demise" will happen when he loses interest in this vanity brand......
