I actually wanna go back on my statement. I don't think he's trash, I just think he's overhyped and not as good as people say he is. He COULDVE been, but his choice of opposition in his earlier stage of his career ruined him. If only he went to America like khan and tried to make a name there.
Thurman is an opportunist. Fights the path of least resistance only when they're there for the taking.
If Brook fought DSG, a shot to pieces Collazo and a shot to pieces Guerrero he'd be still undefeated and have at least two more knockouts on his ledger if not three.
Fought nothing but bums? He's fought better opponents than Thurman has.
Porter is a bum? GGG? Spence?
Brook had a broken orbital was inactive, dropped two weights to come back and instantly fight Spence. Where is Thurman at?Why isn't he rallying for a unification with Spence? Cause he'd get his ass bust and is once again looking to fight someone there for the taking.
Where is the outcry from fans for this fight? You want unifications and undisputed champions right?
We're talking 147 here. Who has he n at 147 to make you think that he beats Thurman? This whole "eye test" thing is ruining boxing. If Wilfred was in this era, he would be P4P 1 due to the eye test.
He didn't strike while the iron was hot. After the Porter win he should have went for bigger fights while his psyche was in full swing. He stalled, got stale fighting weak opposition and cashed out.
I think he's a solid B to B+ fighter. Which is nothing to sneeze at. But he's not an A guy.
Spence, clearly, is an A guy. And you could see the difference. Brook had several really nice moments in the fight -- yet still in spite of that Spence was really in control from start to finish.
At no point in the fight did it feel like Brook had taken control to the point where the pendulum had started to lean his way. It was leaning in Spence's direction from the opening bell.
i know spence is the man being hyped up at the moment but come on now. he hasnt fought anyone worthy for you to make that statement. wait til he fights someone credible first.
Some good points that he should have fought better opposition earlier, I think that's fair.
Although when you look at it on context...he wasn't the Olympian, the draw that Khan was, so no one looked at him as a money fight...so it wasn't THAT easy for him to get big names. He put himself in a mandatory position and tamed Porter, that's a really solid win.
I think most are being slightly unfair to him. He's really good, and I think he showed that against Spence. It took balls to go up against GGG and it took balls to drop all the way back down and defend against Spence right after.
Spence may be young, but it's obvious he's probably the best WW in the world right now...and if you can't see that eye test wise, you should probably watch more boxing.
I actually felt Brook's loss against Spence truly proved that he IS world class and elite...that was a dog fight and I think Brook just wasn't ready for that kind of a fight after getting pounded on by GGG, a once in a generation type of talent 2 classes above him.
His career is weird because he could have been more than he was...but it wasn't meant to be. However, if you know boxing, you could watch him and understand that he is elite and fights against DSG or Thurman were even money before the GGG beating.
I never said that Spence dominated. But to me, it felt like he (Spence) was in control for the majority of the fight. Brook had a lot of nice moments. He did. But Spence would always come back with a big run of his own. And then the rest of the time when Brook wasn't having those moments I thought that Spence was controlling the action and putting in more work.
I don't know, maybe I'm wrong and need to go back and re-watch it. But that's what it felt like while I was watching.
To me it felt like...to use a basketball analogy if I can, it felt like one basketball team (Spence) was up by 10 for the majority of the way, with the other team (Kell) making runs here and there to continually keep it very interesting...but never really overcoming the hump. Spence just kept seeming to keep him at bay. I don't know that probably sounds ****** but that's how it felt to me for whatever it's worth.
I agree with you on all that. Early on Brook really had to force it and it was showy but he wasn't really landing a lot and Spence was. Especially to the body.
He is no different that all the other guys we hype up.
Spence weak resume
Ggg weak resume
Beterbiev weak resume
Usyk weak resume
Lomanchecko picking up some steam
I could go. Brook is still world class he just dared 2 be great he lost
