Is Mike Tyson one of the most overrated fighters ever?

[QUOTE=Boxing Goat;17707465]It's Vitali and he only lost to one semi-lesser fighter and that was Byrd and as you well know he lost because he got injured in a fight he was pitching a shutout.
And about vitaly's injury? The Dude quit, he lost to frecking Chris Byrd!!! The others got ko by Rahman & Oliver McCall & frecking Scott what's his name? I'm not a big Tyson fan, more of a Ali fan. But please, don't **** on Tyson's career, as a former fighter & now trainer, I find it insulting.Comment

How on earth could anyone make an argument that GG has a better resume?Don't get me wrong, I love Tyson, he's the face of boxing right now for me, a charismatic person.
I appreciate that he's the fighter who made pro boxing popular among youth in Russia in 90's (this is where I'm from). People wouldn't care that much about the sport over here if it wasn't for him
Some dog owners name their pit bulls after Tyson. I had a friend and he's called Tyson because he loves ****ing people up. Tyson has that kind of fame that went over American borders. Even Pacquiao and Mayweather never had that kind of international fame when you think about it. When you ask a casual person about some boxers, Tyson is always the second name that gets mentioned after Ali. I don't know how it is in America, but that's how it is over here. Ali, Tyson, maybe Roy Jones and that's it, they barely know any other names
And I get that he was famous not because of his resume but because of the manner how he was winning fights. Definitely one of the most entertaining fighters of all time. But when you look at his resume you start thinking that all this hype isn't justified. Holyfield and Lewis were much better and they were coming from the same generation of heavyweights. I made this thread because I got tired arguing with casuals when I say that Tyson is not even top 5 heavyweight of all time
Man, you can even make an argument for Golovkin's resume being better and I'm not hating on Tyson, I have a lot of respect for him
What are you talking about?Comment

I think prime tyson is of solid substance if not great for you guys. But we never get the chance to see most of it against top oppositions. He's one of those boxers that never really get to reach their potentials. After his trainer died, it all went wrong and downhill from there, he went to prison, what did you expect from him after that? That he's still the same mentally and physically?
He's already past it when he fought the lewises and holyfields of the world. Those are all money fights.
I think he got a unique skillset as well. Those head movement, getting inside without getting hit, foot work, speed, power and ultimately that killer intinct.
Pound for pound make a 147 version of Mike Tyson and he'd clubber everyone there and be most avoided.
But we really can't judge because he had a bad career.
We are yet to witness anyone like him at any weights at all.Comment

He lost to the Best of the Best
Yup, he lost to the best of the best: Danny Williams (Steak & Eggs Hall of Fame), Kevin McBride (Spam & Eggs Hall of Fame), Buster Douglas (Under Achiever's who had 1 good night Hall of Fame), Lennox (Bet my Chin's better than Norton's)Lewis (Pushing 40 1 year from retirement), Evander Holyfield (Blown up Cruiser on the downside).
Reality, how can a guy NEVER beat or really compete against the aforementioned, win a war or beat an equally talented fighter be considered great?? They can't.Comment
