I can't understand some fans fascination with Martinez, the guy's a hypejob. Who did he ever beat? A bunch of bums. Hell, bumass Chavez Jr. almost knocked his ass out.

Canelo finishes were Margarito left out, easy KO.

I love both fighters, but 154/early 160 Martinez wins this.

I agree that Alvarez' fundamentals are superior, but that Martinez was a brilliant mover with a great Jab. Can't see Alvarez catching up to him in later rounds when Martinez kicks it into high gear.

Too much movement, too much volume and respectable power.

Chavez left himself open to getting hit more against segio because he was an easier target to hit landed almost 200 punches tired him out and then caught and dropped him in the 12th 30 more seconds and sergio is knocked out. Canelo was so skilled he landed just 71 shots never even sniffed a meaningful shot and QUIT went into survival mode refusing to throw because every time he threw he was countered. Had his eye sole up and leaking from the nose halfway into round 3 then quit.

What does Chavez face look like if lets his hands go? Does macklin and Murray have crazy power because both put sergio down as well as tons of other fighters. He was chinny and shyt defense that's why he was always getting off the canvas. And canelo would have no problems landing and putting him down too.

I like Sergio and his story is great. A dude who picks up boxing in his 20s goes from club fighter, to journeyman and finally become a world champ. But let's be honest by the time he became a world class fighter he was ALREADY a old man in his mid 30s with many bad habits because he never had good fundamentals or defense. Made for some fun fights because he was vulnerable and always getting hit and climbing off the canvas. But that shyt don't fly against elite fighters. There are many guys at 154 and 160 all time and today that would beat him. You just can't tell me a guy who let macklin land 40% of his power shots won't be lit up by canelo. That a dude who let slow bum Chavez land 200 punches on him and had him crawling around in the 12th won't be caught by the faster more skilled canelo.

What age did Sergio get the peg leg? I forget.

Loved Sergio, but I think Canelo stops him.

Sergio had a few good wins, but a lot of very close fights with ordinary opposition. Macklin and Barker both gave him difficult fights, Williams 1 was very close...

He was exciting and had good speed, but his defense was leaky, he was off balance a lot and he went down a lot. Canelo would do to a prime version what Cotto did to the crippled version.

I have to agree. It would be a great fight. Why do people assume Canelo is some kind of bad dude? Let's see how he does against Golovkin. He was totally outmaneuvered by old man Floyd, unable to finish tiny Cotto, unable to finish a drained and phlegmatic Junior, who is a completely undedicated fighter.

And knocking out junior welterweights that have already been stopped previously isn't enough to convince me that Canelo would easily defeat a clever, unique fighter like a prime Sergio, who had such a great ability to stick and move.

Check back after Canelo fights an actual middleweight instead of just taking money fights for Oscar and Golden Boy. Until then I have to give the edge to the guy that defeated P. Will and Pavlik.
