Could it just be fight fans getting greedy and unrealistic (yes, including me)? After all GGG did beat #2 MW in a close but clear manner. Jacobs had youth, reach, weight and hand speed advantage and still lost. GGG might be slowing down a bit but he still has a few good fights left before retiring.

No doubt age is beginning to catch up abit, but he's a consumate professional who's always in shape, very durable and the best middle in the world as it stands. And Jacobs is improved since Pirog it seems to me. A shame that we never saw a bit more of Pirog too. Maybe he would've been the man.Comment

like abel ggg trainer said himself GGG is finally fighters better competitions so you cant blast them out every time.Comment

Its a bit of both.
Jacobs was better than expected, the consensus was his chin was gonna let him down sooner or later in this contest. It obviously didn't. And Jacobs had a career best performance I think most would agree. If the Sergio Mora I Jacobs showed up for this fight it goes very differently than it went I believe.
But GGG isn't getting younger either. He's turning 35 next month iirc. Go look at most of your favorite fighters in boxing history at 34, 35, 36 & older. They weren't the same guy as the 29, 30 year old version of himself. We've been fooled by a tiny % of guys like Klitschko, Bhop, Floyd & even Manny (many, myself included, are critical of current Can't KO Anyone Manny over back in the day KTFO Of MFers Manny, but it wasn't that long ago he made Tim Bradley look 3 levels below him despite his sub-peakness) that its now standard for guys to last longer in the game at a high level when those guys are just anomalies &/or super talented/skilled. The odds are a 37 year old GGG will be dropping L's to top guys & not Mannying or Bhopping his division anymore.Comment

This is the only response in the whole thread that makes sense. But they don't wanna listen to Abel because they'll have to admit GGG wasn't fighting good competition.Comment

Dont someone try to steal Tom Bradys jizz at least once a month? Wouldnt be surprised if a few members were ******* Golovkin off in his sleepComment

I'll preface my remarks by repeating that I thought Jacobs did enough to win the fight.
But, as close as it was, no way was it a robbery. I thought that Jacobs landed more hard shots and frustrated Lil g the whole night.
That being said, there are things Danny could have done better- and in a rematch he might want to exploit some of those things.
Switching stances was a double edge sword. Clearly, he was not as effective as a southpaw.
But, he did confuse Lil g a lot. More than anything, the switching exposed just how basic Lil g really is.
And they should have taken advantage of that tendency towards the basic and got creative.
For example, when Jacobs went southpaw you could basically set your watch on Lil g throwing a lead right hand within 5 seconds or less. As a matter of fact this is what happened in creating the knockdown. In a rematch, Jacobs must be more responsible defensively against those right hands and be ready to counter something that will almost always be coming very soon after he switches.
Another thing I noticed is that Jacobs passed up opportunity after opportunity to throw his own lead right hand.
There were numerous times when he switched back to orthodox that you could literally watch Lil g reorient himself to deal with the regular stance. It was in this window that Jacobs should have been chancing his own lead right. It was open many times.
So yeah, Jacobs was crafty but not enough.
Lil g is one of the most fundamentally sound guys out there. But, you CAN exploit that by-the-book approach with a little creativity.Last edited by koolkc107; 03-25-2017, 07:57 AM.Comment

I have been saying all along Golovkin was mediocre. The only time I gave him credit was against Lemieux. As I watched the fight again I realized Lemieux was atrocious in that fight. His movement was so predictable Golovkin saw everything coming. With that being said I picked him to beat Jacobs because his chin was still questionable and I wasn't sure he would be able to hold up for 12 rounds. Bottom line is Golovkin looked unstoppable against mediocre opponents. Jacobs amateur pedigree and having the fight of his life proved once again that it's the level of competition that determine if a fighter is truly great.Comment
