Staging the fight at 164.5lbs was a realtively equal trade between the two fighters.

What is the tradeoff with simply taking the fight at 160lbs?

Golovkin is seemingly dreadfully affraid of even shaving his body a pound below 160lbs; Alvarez just made 154lbs with no real issue.

Ignoring the trinkets (I sincerely doubt that Alvarez would see any value in paying 3% of his take to each of the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO, with the possibility of the IBO looking for a taste too), you're basically looking at a junior middleweight and a middleweight looking to make a fight (with the Chavez Jr fight as the template).

Alvarez makes 154lb with no real issue, and Golovkin makes 160lbs with no issue; split the difference and you're at 157lbs, with the weight leaning in Alvarez's direction because he's the clear A-side star.

Golovkin's been a professional fighter for over a decade, yet he's never given a concession to anyone ever, and folks like you defend it, lol
Again, wtf is the point of 157 or 156 or these ***** ass catchweights? There is no point, if he can fight chavez at 164 for a big fight he can fight GGG at 160 with no problem as well. You are basically admitting canelo is a ***** and doesnt want to fight GGG at his best weight he has to drain him a little to gain an advantage.

There is no need for a catchweight. If canelo was 35 just like GGG he wouldnt be able to cut that much weight, hes the same size as GGG.

All roads will lead to ggg. Golden boy know this so that's why they don't want the saunders fight to happen. If it does, canelo has no choice but to fight ggg or be a laughing stock. GB hopes ggg dosen't face saunders meanline they come up with a new offer every 6 months. 10 million, 15 million, flat fee, no fight in between, etc.....

      1. rematch chavez jr if the demand is there

      2. rematch cotto

      3. fight jacobs, beat him more convincingly than ggg. claim this proves you are better than ggg and theres no need to fight him.

In other words, avoid ggg like the plague continue to duck and never fight for a title as long as ggg has all belts.

Talking about how Canelo doesn't care about titles when we all know the only reason he hadn't cared about the middleweight titles is because Golovkin owns them. Remember when he fought Khan? They asked him why not just fight at 154 instead of 155? Canelo said because he wanted to defend his WBC title and have the title on the line. But he doesn't care about titles Scorpio said haha

The weight thing is absolutely comical though. Fighting Chavez at 164.5 and yet we're supposed to believe there is no reason to fight at 160. There has to be a "trade-off".

This is the problem with boxing. ******ed fans try to justify the bull****, actually encourage it and cheerleading ducking. The sport going downhill is a direct result of "fans" like Scorpio who are OK with making a mockery of the sport, there is no longer repercussions for fighters who duck and who do not man up, in fact it's now encouraged. And the people who do man up are no better off than the guys ducking, in fact worse off in some cases. Like Jacobs, instead of the boxing world being impressed with his passionate performance, proving he's a good fighter, it's being overlooked and the bigger story has become Golovkin didn't dominate him and get the KO, he's overrated, he's getting old, he's not good against boxers, etc., rather than the boxing world celebrating a great competitive fight and Jacobs doing a hell of a job. Pathetic fans, really.
Even in defeat, Jacobs was impressive. He didn't throw as much caution to the wind, but he never folded either even after taking some big shots. I think he fares much better at 168 though.

I could give two ****s what weight the fight is at, but this notion that Golovkin isn't supposed to bend on anything is utterly ridiculous, and seeing folks like you try and defend it is even more ridiculous.

Floyd Mayweather, barely a year into his run at 147lbs, had to go all the way up to the full 154lbs, wear the gloves that Oscar wanted to wear, and basically bend to every condition that Oscar put forward to get his opportunity.

Saul Alvarez opened his mouth and said some **** he shouldn't have said, but came down to 152lbs, to secure his fight with Floyd.

Whether it's on the weight, or money, or some future option, the B-side fighter concedes terms to the A-side fighter, to secure their chance at becoming the A-side fighter.

Alvarez has never stepped on the scales for a fight, in his life, at north of 155lbs. Deal with that

Golovkin's not conceding on the weight, Golovkin's not conceding on the money either, and he's never conceded on either at any point in his entire professional career.

What B-side fighter in the history of the ****ing sport, walked into their biggest fight opportunity without having to give up anything? you guys are ****ing clowns.

Bernard Hopkins, 18 defenses into his title run, was willing to give up 5 pounds to Oscar De La Hoya to make the fight.

Chavez Jr is a super middleweight, Alvarez is a junior middleweight; both fighters sat down, worked out a weight for the fight, and moved on to negotiating out the money, and eventually signing for the fight.

Alvarez isn't going to pay out 12% of his take in sanctioning fees, so to hell with the belts; Alvarez and Golovkin want to fight, so figure out the weight.

Golovkin and his camp have already openly stated that "for a big fight, anywhere from 154lbs to 168lbs", so it's about time Golovkin put his money where his mouth is.

The notion that Golovkin is supposed to pick the weight for the fight, and then argue over the money (if you believe what's been bantered about, K2/Golovkin seem to believe a $10m+ package is a lowball offer) is ridiculous. The B-side rarely gets one, let alone both. Alvarez likely isn't afraid of anyone, but he's not an idiot either.

85/15 Alvarez @155lbs or 90/10 Alvarez @160lbs, and you've got a fight; make your choice or shut the **** up
