Staging the fight at 164.5lbs was a realtively equal trade between the two fighters.

What is the tradeoff with simply taking the fight at 160lbs?

Golovkin is seemingly dreadfully affraid of even shaving his body a pound below 160lbs; Alvarez just made 154lbs with no real issue.

Ignoring the trinkets (I sincerely doubt that Alvarez would see any value in paying 3% of his take to each of the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO, with the possibility of the IBO looking for a taste too), you're basically looking at a junior middleweight and a middleweight looking to make a fight (with the Chavez Jr fight as the template).

Alvarez makes 154lb with no real issue, and Golovkin makes 160lbs with no issue; split the difference and you're at 157lbs, with the weight leaning in Alvarez's direction because he's the clear A-side star.

Golovkin's been a professional fighter for over a decade, yet he's never given a concession to anyone ever, and folks like you defend it, lol

Even in defeat, Jacobs was impressive. He didn't throw as much caution to the wind, but he never folded either even after taking some big shots. I think he fares much better at 168 though.

Chavez Jr is a super middleweight, Alvarez is a junior middleweight; both fighters sat down, worked out a weight for the fight, and moved on to negotiating out the money, and eventually signing for the fight.

Alvarez isn't going to pay out 12% of his take in sanctioning fees, so to hell with the belts; Alvarez and Golovkin want to fight, so figure out the weight.

Golovkin and his camp have already openly stated that "for a big fight, anywhere from 154lbs to 168lbs", so it's about time Golovkin put his money where his mouth is.

The notion that Golovkin is supposed to pick the weight for the fight, and then argue over the money (if you believe what's been bantered about, K2/Golovkin seem to believe a $10m+ package is a lowball offer) is ridiculous.
