"Dignity" is probably too strong a word for what Jacobs currently holds over GGG. But you're definitely more in tuned to what boxing is really about. Being "undisputed" champ isn't about collecting belts. Its about there being no doubt that you are THE MAN in that division. Danny created enough doubt in enough people's minds whether GGG is the unquestioned best middleweight in the world. So GGG can have 100 belts. Until he erases the doubt that Danny created this past Sat, he won't be the UNDISPUTED MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION. he'll just be a goofy looking PeeWee Herman looking muf.ucka with a bunch of belts.
absolutely !
these clowns are insisting that Gennady is reaching for greatness, but he is heading in the wrong direction
who cares if Gennady holds all the belts, when many think that Jacobs - and possibly Canelo - can beat him?
Either the place they live is their hometown or isn't make up your damn mind, stop the double standards.
Most people consider where someone is raised as their hometown.
It has nothing at all to do with double standards and everything to do with having common sense. On the one hand we have a man who was raised in one city in the US but moved to another, found success and built a life there. On the other hand you have someone who was born outside of the country, lived outside of the country for most of his adult life and barely speaks the language.
So when Floyd Mayweather Jr comes out of retirement and fights in Las Vegas yet again he'll be doing it from his home city. When GGG goes back to Kazakstan he's going back home. The situation isn't even remotely ****ing comparable and you know that. Stop being obtuse.
Bruh, you can blame the B-side when an event doesn't sell. GGG struggles on PPV for a couple reasons. The biggest being nobody cares about him. Secondly, his competition is mediocre. Which is what I've tried to tell you 100×. People care about names, not belts. The biggest Post-Floyd-Manny show was Canelo-Cotto. And Cotto vacated his belt the week of the fight. And they still did nearly a million buys. GGG needs names. Obviously Canelo is the biggest. If not Canelo, fight Ward or Kovalev. Put recognizable names in the ring with each other and people will buy it.
You were making some sense up until the point you bring up Kovalev and Ward. Those guys just fought on PPV and there numbers were just as bad as GGGs. Apparently their names don't me Sugar Honey Iced Tea either. I think it comes down to ethnicity and personality. GGG does not come from an ethnic group that is both rabid about boxing and lives in the US in big numbers. Cotto and Canelo have him beat there. He also barely speaks English and has a low key awe shucks kind of personality. He's not brash and loud with the kind of personality you love to hate like Muhammed Ali or Floyd Mayweather.
HBO either needs to tweek the way they do his PPVs or recognize that there are just very few PPV stars in the sport.
As for a Jacobs rematch. I think the closeness of the first fight will make the second fight draw better. Its not just "five haters on this forum" that thought Jacobs won. A lot of people thought Jacobs won. And even more think that even if he did lose, he earned a rematch. Floyd didn't become a PPV star because he had adoring fans shelling out dollars to see him do victory laps. He became a PPV star because people wanted to see him lose. And he fought guys that people thought had a chance to beat. Maybe if GGG upped the level of competition and fought some guys that people actually think have a chance to beat him, he'd draw a lil better. People think Jacobs can beat him. That's a better selling point that GGG has ever had in his career.
I disagree. 150k in PPV isn't a big enough number to suggest a rematch will do big business. Even if the rematch doubled in PPV sales it would still be mediocre PPV numbers which more closely resemble someone like Canelo's worst. So all this nonsense about how people are buzzing about Jacobs is meaningless. And I think it sucks. I think there is a real chance this rematch never happens. The first fight just didn't do well enough. Its like a good movie that is meant to start a new franchise but the franchise never happens because the first film didn't make enough money. That might be the case here. Jacobs probably made a career high purse from this fight and after his performance he's probably going to want a raise. If the numbers for the PPV are as weak as they seem to be the money just won't be there.

A lot of GGG's fanatics aren't seasoned fight fans. I've been a hardcore fight fan for nearly 25yrs. And many of them follow the sport very similar to the way I followed it as a kid. Like probably most people my age, Mike Tyson is the reason I'm a fight fan today. Back in those days, winning the WBC, WBA, and IBF made you "undisputed." I honestly don't even remember when the WBO gained enough legitimacy to be a must in the equation. But apparently its arrived. But anyway. I remember being super locked in, and super excited when Tyson fought and defeated Tony Tucker for the IBF belt, adding it to his WBC and WBA belts to become the "undisputed" heavyweight champion. I honestly didn't even get what the big deal was when he fought Michael Spinks. I didn't realize till many years later, after following the sport closely and gaining a better understanding of the sport. Did I realize Mike didn't become the real heavyweight champion until he beat Spinks. The same will happen with a lot of GGG's fans after they follow the sport for a little while longer.
Whoa! What a very controversial thread? I Didn't have the slightest clue when this article was written that it would go more than 45 pages deep and counting.

Its the article that was controversial. It was a thinly veiled hit piece on GGG that brought out his supporters and his haters in equal fervor.
do I think that Ward is cut from a different cloth than Golovkin?
abso-fkn-lutely I do..... they have very little in common in that regard
Ward will OBVIOUSLY rematch Kovalev, if you bit on those retirement comments then you haven't been following the sport and know nothing about Ward.
Ward is a student of the game, and he understands the path to true greatness..... Ward KNOWS you have to be real and get in there with those bad boys..... NOT JUST ONCE, again, and again, and again..... Golovkin has no regard for legacy whatsoever according to Abel Sanchez
I have a link to a Ward video where he talks about the path to greatness..... so we CAN hang him on his own words if he fails to front up..... AND I have a link to a video where Sanchez confirms that Golovkin has little/no regard for legacy..... "he see's it differently"..... just ask
Ward would not have talked shht about 154, and then refused to negotiate with Cotto/Canelo..... Ward would not have made a pile of embarrassing excuses to avoid Lara/Mora..... Ward would not have mentioned 168 and then demanded a 164lb catchweight
Ward is 100% REAL, Gennady is 100% manufactured
the bashing of Ward all because he dared to call out Golovkin AFTER they mentioned fighting at 168, in Ward's division..... was truly insane
NOT saying that Gennady is not an outstanding fighter, because he obviously is..... but he has been more than content with the training wheels that Loeffler cunningly fitted to his career..... he has done NOTHING to reach for greatness, actually avoiding potential marquee fights
I watched 2 podcasts last night, BOTH stated that fight was a great experience for Golovkin, what with the 12 rounds, Jacobs style, the adversity, etc.....
..... but, shouldn't they have been saying that fight was a great experience for the younger, more inexperienced, Danny Jacobs?
funny shht when the vaunted killer gained valuable experience from the unheralded rookie
regarding Canelo..... fk him..... and fk Golovkin too, for not simply picking up that chq and fighting Canelo
I have no doubt that Ward will rematch Kovalev either
He is simply playing the game and looking to get as much out of the rematch as possible
I'll chime in. I think Team Golovkin is making the right decision here. If I was managing GGG, I would advise him to do the exact same thing. Why risk losing the Canelo fight by re-matching with Jacobs; A man he barely defeated?
Team GGG is in this business to make money and not lose it. So why would he risk a loss and a potential big money fight, where he would be easily favored to win, by taking shorts in challenging an opponent that came very close in defeating him in the first place?
Loeffler is no fool. I don't blame him for ducking an immediate Jacobs rematch when there are bigger fish to fry. I am sorry but a Jacobs rematch can wait.
Unless his team can come up with a much better offer, or if he can get himself back into title contention or if one of the sanctioning bodies makes him one of GGG's mandatory challengers for one of the current belts he's holding or just simply order an immediate return bout; Then that fight probably won't happen until a very long time.
