Yeah, my definition is strict. Definitely not trying to slight the guys but I base it off of eye test more than anything then everything else. My reasoning with MW is that the division is so bad, that the best fight whom are very good get bumped up by default to the lack of depth and talent within the division. For instance. As deep as jmw and WW are, the best guys in those divisions are more elite IMO. Manny is still elite unless he completely falls off a cliff in his next fight. My eye test tells me that Loma is elite, Kovalev, Ward, Lara although his style isn't fan friendly to say the least. Canelo is in there but for me, it's his resume that speaks for itself. Like him or not, dude has fought a lot really good to great fighters.

That's true but Maidana win 5-6 rounds versus Mayweather whereas Pacquiao won 2-4. Does that make Maidana a more elite fighter than Pacquiao or is it just a matter of presenting a more difficult style matchup?
Prior to stepping up last night, Jacobs level of opposition has been subpar. I hope he stays active and continues to challenge himself instead of going back to fighting soft touches.Comment

Nah. I did.I'm pretty sure you never called Jacobs elite before this fight. Elevating his status after the fight seems like an excuse for Golovkin's performance.. Jacobs has never been on any pound for pound list and I don't recall you or anybody else ever calling him "elite"
Jacobs was rightfully a 7-1 underdog. That's normally not the case for truly elite fighters.
I've called Jacobs elite before, and I also said he has absolutely no chance to beat GG, I thought he'd get sparked within 6..... but that never changed my perception of him. He's elite, no doubt. (IMO).
It's tough for me to say a guy isn't elite when I feel that only one guy in his division will currently beat him.Comment

That's exactly my point. I just ask for consistency. Danny's been fighting long enough for the elite tag to be placed upon him.I'm pretty sure you never called Jacobs elite before this fight. You know how it is. No matter who GGG fights, there is always someone else he should fight first, while taking just $100 for the fight. What's your rating of Daniel Jacobs then? The guy was widely regarded as the second best MW in the world going in last night, and made a strong case of beating the man who is perceived as the best MW in the world.
If he's not elite then what is he? Semi-elite? The guy is f**king good. I don't see why it's so hard for people to admit this.Comment

Why isn't Danny Jacobs elite?
Tell us. You keep saying he isn't elite because noone ever considered him elite. Well, why don't they consider him elite? Tell usComment
-
The better question is why are you calling him elite when you didn't consider him elite before the fight?
7-1 underdog. If he's elite as you say that wouldn't happen. Elite fighters beat other elite fighters. Quillin is Jacobs best win and up until that point Quillin was considered garbage by the large majority here. Now he's a beast. That's not the way it works in reality.Comment

He is only saying it now because he didn't get the knockout and got outclassed by an overachiever who wasn't supposed to last the 6th round.
In addition, to his KO streak being broken and being exposed by Jacobs, he appears more vulnerable now than ever. He needs to cash out as soon as possible.
If the Canelo fight is still available and on the table, he should take it, because I don't see him remaining an undefeated champion very long.Comment

Based on what I saw last night, he's the best middleweight in the world in a poor division. I think he has some of the tools to be elite but he would have get better wins on his resume as well. The only way to that since he's not getting a GGG rematch is likely to go to 168 and beat a degale or someone of that caliber or wait for the Charlo brothers to move up.
I think Danny could actually improve in a rematch so there's obviously the talent there. I'm unsure of his focus and discipline though. I will say this, he did not make the mistakes I've seen him make routinely in the past that I thought was going to cost him.Comment
