The Vernon Forrest that beat Mosely would also beat Mayweather. Tall 6'0, boxer with decent feet, could get in and out, good boxing ability, good jab, good right hand, wasn't bothered by smaller men with speed, had good timing, and Floyd doesn't hit hard enough to get his respect.

Due to Castillo and his pressure attack giving Floyd issues in their first fight, a fight that could have went Castillo's way, I think guys like Duran, Pryor, Armstrong, Chavez, young Mosely etc. would have been able to beat him cleanly. Probably easier at welter as Floyd's output seemed to drop when he moved up in weight.

Rigondeaux if he was Floyd's size would beat him. Slick southpaw, master technician. Floyd wouldn't have control over the distance, and if Pac is landing that left hand, Rigs left would be landing more frequently.

Assaulting type fighters like Maidana have the best shot at Mayweather. They also have to have the skill and power to finish the job and no one has been able to do that thus far. An interesting fight was Mayweather vs. Corley, specifically round 4. Corley had alot of success getting to Mayweather but not enough power to make a difference.

A pressure/offensive fighter with amazing accuracy and extraordinary cardio (so that punching himself out takes a long, long time to do; Maybe even the whole fight.) Basically, a much better version of Cotto or of Maidana from what we saw of him in his first fight with Floyd.

If you add in power, a strong chin, and/or a long reach as well, you've got pretty much the perfect nightmarish style to beat Mayweather.

I'm not a Floyd fan, he's a massive *******. However, I'm not sure he can be beaten solely through better application of tactics. All of the suggested gameplans above have people winning because of their physical gifts(Forrest, Hearns, extraordinary cardio etc.). Those aren't in the same category as 'hook off the jab' and the like. If we're being unrestricted, then some unholy combination of Hearns (power, height, reach), Leonard (speed, balance), Hagler (chin, training) and Duran (balls, engine) demolishes anyone. If we're talking fighters who've existed, I would favour SRR, SRL, Duran, Forrest and Pernell, with Pryor a maybe along with several others. But in terms of simply gameplan, I don't think there's a blueprint, other than MAYBE being very, very accurate with the jab, because Floyd's stance and speed punishes microscopic inaccuracies very visibly. Other than that, I think it has to be 'make your physical gifts more telling than his. Floyd was that good. Bastard.

                You know your boxing.

                Spot on regarding Forrest.

I think too many guys from this era tried to use the Castillo approach to beating Floyd, and Floyd was just able to handle it better as he matured. It made for good drama though.

There is a reason Mayweather said "We are not fighting to prove who's the best" When he got confronted by Margarito.
LOL @ Hatton at 140 beating Floyd. Floyd would destroy him.

Castillo and Madaina both beat him, take away Floyds Steroids where he can't increase training intensity and stamina he gets stopped by Madaina. Madaina came in clean so he began to tire while Floyd being on steroids still had a full gas tank which helped him survive the beat down and win some later rounds .
