Main Events dictated the entire event to Ward and Roc Nation, regardless of whatever the amount was that Ward got to show up and sit.

The rematch won't go that way; the TV is basically locked in (as Main Events is unwilling to risk their HBO relationship by having Kovalev fight anywhere else), but Ward/Roc Nation Sports will have a say in the location of the fight (carrying over the likely "No Oakland or Russia" clause in the first bout agreement), will have a say in deciding what the international TV partners would look like (Main Events can purchase the right to choose the Russian TV partner if they want), and will have a say in issues as petty as what reporters get press credentials for the rematch.

The money will be what the money will be, but the conversation for any rematch changes in a major way, especially with Ward/Roc Nation being the top dogs now.

      smart post !

Ward is in this game for achievement/recognition

seems like a lot of Ward-haters don't understand that concept

when Ward is ready, he will give Duva what she deserves

However, he defied all the odds by winning and playing by their set of rules. So now he feels he has every right and moral obligation to tell them all to kiss his ass.

The more Duva talks to the press the more fans have to wait for the rematch. She doesn't seem to understand Ward is the man now, it happens when he feels like it. At the moment its more important for him to clear up his situation with HBO, i mean he is a free agent he can go wherever.

This is a bunch of bull****.
HBO doesn't give a crap about who's undefeated or who's defeated. The world doesn't revolve around Ward. Nobody is 'trying to get him beat'. They gave him a commentator gig when he taking dying Goosen to court. Your little conspiracy theories are laughable.
And nobody made him jump anything. In Ward's own words, he can't make 168, and in everyone's words, he cleaned out 168. On top of all of that, in his own words he wanted to win a HW title someday. When you're struggling to make weight and you cleaned out your divison is the absolute, undisputable time to move up.

More bull****. You should take a trip to Oakland where you can lend your shoulder to Ward to cry on.

People who defend Ward's promotional antics are the worst scum on this forum. You can like a fighter but not defend his antics.
It's a sad day when one cannot accept the reality that a hero of theirs has fallen. This is simply a case of too many unforced errors and missed opportunities. Had Duva or Kovalev done their homework by taking care of business in and outside of the ring, then we wouldn't be having this debate in the first place.

Let's start with Kathy Duva for example: She was the lead promoter for the original bout. She held all the cards and dealt Ward a very generous hand; Which is very indicative of her level of ineptitude and lack of professionalism.

She chose the venue, gloves, ring size, referee and the three judges; Which were all Nevada based ( for the exception of John McKaie, NY)and not another international judge on the panel. With these unforced errors and bad choices, she stacked the deck against her own fighter.

Since Kovalev was the champion, the fight should have been held in his native country or on a neutral soil, like Australia for example. However, her lack of judgement cost her fighter a loss in a very close fight, in which he would have otherwise won had the fight wasn't held in the U.S.

Lastly, then there's Kovalev himself. When it was so painfully obvious in rounds 1 and 2 that he was naturally the stronger and larger man, who was capable of hurting Ward anytime he so chose, shouldn't have thrown him a life saver by carrying him to the finish line.

You have to finish what you started by putting your opponents away. You don't coast the rest of the fight by sending the decision to the scorecards where the judges have to decide the fate.

That was a huge missed opportunity on Sergey's part and he has no one to blame for that but himself.

And what you're saying is not even true. Tito's legacy still isn't quite the same after he struggled so much against Oscar. Even though he got the win, people remember what went down, both ways.

And you say Ward doesn't owe them anything? He signed a contract that says he owes them a rematch per court of law, so what are you even talking about. You just sound dumb. Every single point you made was ****** if not outright unethical and selfish. I award you no points, etc. Just a terrible comment. You can do better.

My point is, the remacth doesn't make any sense from business point of view - the first fight was a flop. Roc Nation already paid Ward 5 millions - like I've said - that investment didn't bring them their money back, considering low ppv salves. And Ward will ask for even more money in the second fight (based on his words that the rematch has to make sense) but I doubt Roc Nation is generous enough to agree with that again. The first fight wasn't profitable for them, it was like a charity to support Ward and his family

Speaking of the rematch itself, it'll be close, just like the first fight. Kovalev needs 2 KDs in different rounds to win the fight, and that is very unlikely to happen

When you fight on foreign soil, you have to be few levels above your opponent. It's logical, life isn't fair, so there's no point in complaining about judges robbing you because you're a foreigner. Kovalev has no one to blame for that but himself, I agree with that. I feel like his career will go downhill after this fight

...so negotiate. What's this passive aggressive whiny baby **** Ward is pulling? What's stopping him from negotiating now? You rather ward pull his power trip than see this fight ASAP? The fans have changed

Well atleast they've started the ball rolling. RN trying to squeeze more money out of Kovalev....

Interesting they switched to the smaller arena though?
