This is a bunch of bull****.
HBO doesn't give a crap about who's undefeated or who's defeated. The world doesn't revolve around Ward. Nobody is 'trying to get him beat'. They gave him a commentator gig when he taking dying Goosen to court. Your little conspiracy theories are laughable.
And nobody made him jump anything. In Ward's own words, he can't make 168, and in everyone's words, he cleaned out 168. On top of all of that, in his own words he wanted to win a HW title someday. When you're struggling to make weight and you cleaned out your divison is the absolute, undisputable time to move up.

More bull****. You should take a trip to Oakland where you can lend your shoulder to Ward to cry on.

People who defend Ward's promotional antics are the worst scum on this forum. You can like a fighter but not defend his antics.
In this case, honoring the contract would be to fight him again, IF he chooses to fight again.

There is nothing written in the contract that prevents him from retiring. If his heart is no longer in boxing, why should he fight? Even more importantly, why would you WANT to see an unmotivated fighter in the ring who is only in it for the money.

Do I agree with the decision? No. I want to see a rematch. But if a fighter chooses to retire because he is tired of being in the hurt business, so be it.

This is the wrong sport to be in if your heart is not in it.

Ward is a typical bitcch. Kovalev find another fighter for a back up. Ward either will ask too much money or he won't fight you since he knows his chances are 25% to beat you.

Come on Andre. Make your retirement official so people can move on. It's unconscionable stalling and waste a prime fighter's time and career. If you want to retire, say so. No hard feelings.

Despite having plenty of competition; this will probably end up being the most egregious duck of the last several years.

After all, it was HBO that had set him up to fail by making him jump up an entire weight class; In order to fight a naturally larger, stronger and undefeated fighter, in the hopes of him losing, keeping him off their network and most importantly keeping GGG's record intact.

However, he defied all the odds by winning and playing by their set of rules. So now he feels he has every right and moral obligation to tell them all to kiss his ass.

HBO forced him to move up? Last I recall, Ward himself stated that he can no longer make 168 and even has a hard time and has to cut weight to make 175.

Even Floyd gave both Castillo and Maidana immediate rematches after talk of his win being controversial.

I agree with everything you're saying, I just don't believe that "his heart is not in it". I just don't. He other reason he gave is "I've accomplished everything I've ever wanted", which i don't believe either. He's on record saying he wants to win a HW championship one day, but suddenly he's happy retiring at 32 after having 1 meaningful fight at LHW?

If he retires, he better stay retired. If he decides to come back to boxing in 18 months, everyone will mercilessly claim he retired to duck Kovalev rematch.
