There may not be a "next" PPV star. Typically PPV stars are created by beating the previous PPV stars. Mayweather & Pacquiao got the rub from DLH. But May beats Pac and retires without anybody getting the rub from May.
Canelo got partial rub from facing May, even in defeat, but it was important for him to get Cotto's scalp, which is why Cotto was able to make ridiculous demands and get away with it. It was an investment in Canelo's longterm viability to make sure his fans saw the visual of him beating a PPV star.
But now? HBO boxing is dying and Showtime doesn't believe in PPV. And honestly, looking at Haymon's plan, it doesn't appear Haymon believes in PPV longterm either. Seems more interested in building 50 TV stars rather than 2-3 PPV stars.
So will be tough for Haymon clients to become PPV stars, but so few ever become PPV stars anyway. Meanwhile, a larger pool of fighters will be able to make respectable money the way Haymon is doing things. Spreading the wealth.Comment

Before Mayweather and Pacquiao gets the shot of Dela hoya they had to fight through, Corrales, Barrera, Marquez, Castillio, Judah, Freitas etc. Pacquiao and Mayweather earned it through the hard way to get that Dela Hoya shot, they build up their names first before fighting the ppv star. Now davis needs to build up his name by fighting Lomachenko. There may not be a "next" PPV star. Typically PPV stars are created by beating the previous PPV stars. I thought Broner (Mr. Billions) was the next big thing! PPV is all but dead as a business model. The American public has moved on to other sports and other things; after the Mayweather/Pacquiao fiasco it unlikely to be resurrected anytime soon.Comment

Well he just demolished a top contender at the age of 22 so he is on the right track. To be a PPV star you also need to beat elite opponents though and it may be a while before we learn that he can do that.
Floyd beat Corrales at the age of 24. Manny beat Barrera at the same age. Oscar was 24 when he beat Whitaker.
The three big contributors to PPV stardom are looking great against sub-elite competition, getting the W when you face the elites, and building off the star power of others.
We'll see in time if Davis has got this in him.Comment

Mayweather/Pacquiao killed the PPV platform.. casuals not getting hoodwinked again. blame whoever you want but the fight was trash and definitely not worth $100.
Canelo is the only one left and his mega fight with Cotto didn't even crack 1 million.
Garcia/Thurman on CBS, that's the way to go.Comment
