Canelo has given Golovkin the chance to fight for it in September. Up to Golovkin to accept.

So canelo is the mw champ indefinitely...even if he doesn't fight at mw for another 2 years, or never does? Does anyone really care about the lineal title in this case? I get that you think it makes ggg fans mad, but nobody thinks canelo is the man at 160.

Having more titles doesn't make you the top champ, you can just be given them. You don't get given lineal.
It would be better if you read the post I was replying to. He makes some good points.

I'd say yes. This fight should re-establish lineage

I'll second that. Given that Conela was too small for mw, now all of a sudden we are not sure if he'll drop down in weight to make the division. Wtf?

I personally don't care much for lineage, but I know a lot of you do. I see it as one more step towards completely unifying and then hopefully moving up. What are your thoughts?

Don't quote me for your petty little feud, with some other poster I care equally less about.

Lineal can get watered down a lot in some cases. 160 is one of those cases for sure.
It's been 4 years (and 5 straight fights) since a fighter fighting for that trinket was allowed to weigh in at 160. That was Martin Murray.
Canelo's last (and next defence) take/took place outside of the MW division.

I've seen a lot of posts about how Canelo will still be the lineal if they don't meet, even if GGG has all the belts. Like it's some great, and even hilarious feat. But, so what really? A guy can defend his lineal for the rest of his career fighting below par opposition and will still be 'lineal' as long as he doesn't lose. While the rest of the top guys in the division could be facing one another with no chance to claim lineal.

Golovkin and Jacobs are the top 2 in the division. The winner is the main man at 160. He may not be 'the man who beat the man'. But he will seen as the top dog at 160.

Stevenson is lineal at 175, but Ward and Kovalev are the main men. They've faced eachother and probably will again.
Just as GGG and Jacobs are facing eachother.

I mean, if Jacobs knocks out GGG and Canelo beats Chavez.
Canelo may be lineal, but Jacobs would be the MW king no doubt.

Edit : Slightly off the topic, so apologies.
