Ward beat Kovalev, Andre Ward is the current WBA/IBF/WBO 175lb champion, and Andre Ward won his belts in a close fight (that all three judges saw him nicking over the back half).

Why is it so hard for the folks involved (and the public at large, for that matter) to stand tall and say "Andre Ward won the fight, but we want the rematch"?

That simple admission, from Duva, Kovalev, JDJ, Dan Rafael, etc, will go a long way towards the rematch that everyone wants to harp about having to happen.

Andre Ward is the champion, and should be treated as such in the negotiations.

Damn, everyone hurt his feeling so they should say something they don't believe to make sure the cry baby honors a contract he already signed. Sounds just about right when it comes to Ward.

Come on, the guy was young then and took numerous years off. He's hardly been through wars compared to numerous other guys.

If he wants to quit after facing a little adversity then so be it but you want to be an ATG, you take these kind of rematches and win just like numerous other greats have done.

if you havent been in the ring how would you know. fights have ebb and flow....being dominant doesnt mean you dont suffer adversity, wear and tear

Calzaghe exited the sport by comfortably beating a washed up RJJ. He didnt simply retire after a debatable win (like Ward is threatening to do). The Hopkins fight was very close and I had Bernard winning it personally but at least Calzaghe fought on for one more fight before retiring. He probably should of had a rematch with Hopkins but I seem to recall the fight being very cagey and not much interest after the first fight. This isnt the case with Kovalev vs Ward.

Do you honestly believe beating the likes of Miranda, Abraham and Bika etc makes him a first ballot HOF'er? Really?

And yes not rematching Kovalev will definitely hurt his legacy. Simply put most people had him losing the fight.

Ward surpassed JC's resume a decade ago, by age 26 he had all those names on his record. He dominated Bika, JC struggled, dominated Kessler, JC struggled even though Kess was injured. JC has struggled not with just Bika, but Reid, Mitchell and other journeyman. There really is no comparison, SOG takes a big wet dump on JC's resume. Especially with how Dawson, Kovalev, and even Smith Jr. have DEMOLISHED JC's career defining W that he arguably lost.

Pretty sure i said that kovalev would be his last fight. He was inactive cause he didnt like fighting hard fights, he had to fight kovalev to justify that hbo deal. Ward wont fight again and let me be the first to say, thank god for that. Will go down as arguably the most boring fighter of all time.

HBO would have benefited more if Kovalev won...everyone was pulling for him. Ward was to be his coming out party/opponent. Duva also would have benefitted if kovalev won.

Bruuuhhh. Ward touched some souls around here. Some of these cats are like really BIG MAD. I shouldn't be surprised. I mean, I did live through the Floyd era. Where logic and rational were often absent. And female hysteria was often. But the level of emotional investment some of these cats have in this **** is just crazy to me. I seriously believe I could come home and find my ole lady in bed with another man. And not be as upset and distraught as some of these cats are about a super close, super competitive fight not going in favor of their rooting interest. I mean, being a heterosexual male that has sex on regular basis and all. I just can't relate to some of these cats on here.
