Comments Thread For: Making Cotto-Kirkland a PPV is Not a Healthy Start to New Year

By Keith Idec - They might as well call Cotto-Kirkland "Made For Failure" on the promotional posters. That's how little financial sense it makes to try to force a Miguel Cotto-James Kirkland pay-per-view event on already-frustrated fight fans tired of being asked to pay extra for shameless money grabs that don't belong on this expensive platform...

If he could re-discover the old James that blitzed Glen Tapia and Angulo, then he's got half a chance. It's all about Ann Wolfe - is she back with him?

HBO PPVs are getting as bad as UK PPVs. Cotto/Kirkland, Golovkin/Jacobs, Canelo/TBA

Yea HBO's first half schedule is gonna be PPV heavy if all these fights get made.

                March, GGG vs Jacobs
April, Assuming Manny could be in play here if his contract with HBO is still in play which it may or may not be, but idk for a fact either way
May, Canelo vs some mfer who don't deserve the fight
                June, Cotto vs Kirkland

Plus there has to be some possibility Ward vs Kovalev II could be a PPV as I personally don't believe regular HBO will be able to pay the purses for both guys with PPV money.

Since when did Kirkland become Mayorga......the go to fight to you can market, but that everyone knows that he's going to lose by exciting knockout and he's basically there to lose excitingly. But you know what.....I'm calling a upset right know, IFFFFFFF he's with Wolfe this time around. If he's with Anne i'm calling an upset, because she'll beat in his head that this it it....he's not marketable on his own anymore (fighting a no name). This is it, or it's club fighting for the rest of his career.

Question is always going to be how many of those 200,000 watching the facebook live stream would have paid the $70 for the PPV event if the stream weren't available.

My guess is not many. Streams aren't reliable, if you really want to see the fight, you would already have ordered the PPV and not hoped a stream held up for the whole fight.

The stream probably cost Top Rank very little. Saying it cost Top Rank millions assumes at least around 30,000 of those watching the stream would have paid the PPV fee.

They can assume all 200,000 would have paid the $70 and then say the stream cost Top Rank 14 million for example - doesn't make it remotely true.

You always see this distortion when the industries cry about 'cost to industry'.
