(1) you can given todays technology
(2) watching from a remote location reduces the inherent bias that can affect judges from the home crowd cheering one side over the other
(3) watching from remote locations means you can pick from a much bigger pool of judges (so exclude judges whose nationality is the same as one of the boxers - and NO TEXAN JUDGES WITH TEXAN BOXERS), and also have more judges score the fight
(4) a larger judging panel reduces the likelihood of controversies
Sooo easy to do, and so many advantages, yet boxing clings to a system that has proved itself not to work over and over again (even soccer is starting to wilt to using technology given the ref-only system has also proven itself not to work).
ok pure fantasy time - just imagine, the result is decided by the results sent in by 35 selected boxing writers from around the world, all watching live from where ever they are (result available just as quickly as today, if not quicker - I bet I could design a system where, except for fights which depend on the result of the last round, the result is usually known the moment the final bell goes). Every one of the boxing writers will be justifying their scoring in their articles the next day- no mysteries, no controversies as to who winners are any more, just the chance to disagree with a bunch of people who's job it is to know boxing and to defend their opinions.
To be fair it seems like foreign judges give out the WORST cards. See Mayweather, Jones Jr. Conlon, and ALL of Germany judges. .. End of the day don't leave it up to the judges. Kovalov Should of had a Plan B or not tired or should of been so tired in the late rounds.

When I watched the fight live I was biased towards Kovalev, because I thought he would win and I wanted him to win. When I watched it a second time, trying to be objective, there were rounds I thought Kovelev had won that I realised could have gone either way.
I still thought Kovalev won the 10th clearly doe. I'll watch it again tomorrow, and if I see it different, I'll let you know.

Such an amazing fight is going down tomorrow and the buzz around here is nothing more than a low hum.
Loma and Walters deserve major attention. That's another rare "best fighting the best in their division" fight.
GREAT point !
let's not sell that fight short
and, it is likely to be a better fight
I also liked your earlier point about the rounds
and I liked the point by 'taes' about judges being reluctant to score a round even..... it happens too infrequently now.

To me, the 9th is more controversal than the 10th. I think Kovalev putting out such a high workrate in the 10th, people kinda interpreted it as him "making a stand" at the comebacking Ward. But I also have Kovalev the 9th in what is a pretty concensus Ward round. So who knows. Gotta do it again.

On that very day Perez was robbed too by the judges.)
not a bad idea - I have heard that mooted before - the problem is, it detracts from the event/occasion
then again, the fight drama spills out for another few days
not convinced that is a bad idea, and not convinced it wouldn't work, but I can see why they are reluctant to use it
you make a great point..... I am a Ward guy, but (admittedly, in hindsight) the best result from that fight would have been a draw..... that way Sergey gets to keep his titles, Ward gets to keep his undefeated record, and we still get to see a rematch
it is hard to view Kovalev as a loser following that fight, but then again it is hard to think of him as a clear winner either
thought provoking post ^^

Lol. Imagine watching a close fight like Kovalev/Ward, or a historic match like Floyd/Manny, and not knowing who would be declared the winner till the day after the fight.
that is true, good point
but there was also a time when there were no limit on how many rounds you could fight, or for how long each round would last.....
I agree with your bottom line, it would likely detract from the event/occasion too much
