To me fighter who box like this outside cant be P4P nr1, regardless of result of the fight ,his just good ,Crafty and know many tricks inside ,and his dirty ,outside he aint ****.he got shut down outside ,and inside in 1 half .

I think Roman is still nr 1 Frampton and Loma are There ,Canelo and GGG too, it depends on what we base it on skills or resume .Lebedev should be in P4P list to ,well schooled Mofo ,and IF Fury is back he should be there

He moved up in weight and dethroned one of the division's kings.

If he was active, he would have been 1 the moment Mayweather retired but he had to go out and show he was still operating on the same level. He did just that.

Also some boxing fans are full of crap. If I'm Canelo, I'm thinking that toppling Golovkin would not be enough for the critics.

I believed Ward was the best fighter in the world back in 2012, and I think he deserves the P4P#1 mantel now if you believe he beat Kovalev.

But does anyone else see a lesser fighter than the guy who fought Froch or Dawson. Yeah Kovalev is the best he's faced. But taking just the Barrera and Kovalev fights, I don't see the same energy levels, timing, or sharpness in him anymore.

Look back at the absolute control he had over Froch throughout their fight. He backpedalled a but towards the end but even against a strong finisher like Froch, he was so much sharper and in charge down the stretch.

I don't see that same dominance in him anymore. Not even against Barrera who is well short of the elite level. Ward is obviously still a great fighter but it looks more and more like he has fallen off a bit. Even accounting for the fact that there aren't many potential opponents half as good as Kovalev, he doesn't look nearly as unbeatable anymore.

Kovalev remains my no. 1, GGG second and gonzalez third but I can certainly see him at one.

No one so far has snatched that number one spot tbh, unlike pacquiao circa 2007 to 2012.

Everyone else has been no. 1 since by default.

You can be P4P 1 by fighting off the back foot. Whitaker, mayweather and to a certain extent hopkins prove that but ward isn't a good outside fighter. I've said that for years.

Ward beating Froch is something that has lived off his whole career.

                  Is Kovalev no.1 too?

I'll keep saying this because it's true, using an official decision to base an argument is an excuse not to think, because the official decision means little
Officially he got the W. I've been through these types of moments in boxing a few times. I thought Pacquiao was clearly robbed vs Bradley, and that fight had a clear majority that thought Pacquiao won and they still moved him down the P4P list and Bradley up. My point is I don't care who reigns as the mythical P4P king, I didn't think Floyd was better than Maidana, not after the first fight, not after the second fight. I just want this rematch between Kovalev and Ward, build your P4P list however you please.

Think we can all agree that the people saying GGG was one dimensional have egg on their face, Ward the guy who was easily meant to be the best about just got took to school the only ones finding Ward winning it are the extreme fanboys with no credibility I mean even Stephen A.Smith admitted Ward lost yet we have a handful of ******s trying to debate a clear loss that was for Ward lol,

Mind boggling, definitely would have Canelo, GGG, Roman, Kovalev and Crawford all ahead of Ward on the P4P rankings.

Maybe Ward can prove us wrong and adapt to Kovalev in a rematch but his style is just horrible like Sole said clinch, throw a jab or two, try to land a dirty combination that was created through hugging and wrestling your man.
Maybe Ward would have done better If Byrd took that away from him or maybe Ward would have been forced to fight or maybe Ward knew he could win regardless of how pathetic of a fight he put up to the champion as a challenger that isn't how you win a belt.

Kovalev just showed that Ward isn't the type of versatile fighter he was being compared to. I won't even mention those other fighters name because that's a disgrace.

Ward is a 2 trick poney. Clinch and fight on the inside, then jab on the outside. Kovalev out did him in both.

I actually said something on BA or whatever forum I was on at the time, 4 years ago after the Dawson fight, that if Ward fights someone who is healthy and can match him for size and strength he loses. That's what we saw last night.

I'm gonna put my hand up and say I didn't think Kovalev would be as strong but he was and once he took that from Ward, what did he show exactly? He showed Chilemba levels of defense, which is good but nothing special.
I think your mentality is problematic.

Ward recovered from a KD to tke the fight to a top 3 p4p fighter in the world. Now, I had Kov winning a close fight. That said, the fact Ward did what he did shows how great he is. He made Kov hold/clinch just as much because he was looking to get inside. Not every fighter can do that.

Dominating easy guys shouldn't be how we judge fighters p4p. Fights like this where you have to win against another great fighter is the best measure.

I think both men were elevated by this fight and you can make a case that they are tied at #1.
