HBO refused to pay either fighter; Kovalev and Stevenson were on the verge of splitting $1.5m between the two of them (Stevenson with no longterm security), Yvon Michel got a great offer from Showtime, Michel gave HBO the opportunity to counter/match, and HBO walked away from the very fight that they'd been building too.

    try telling the complete story.

Ward is already the lineal 175 champ. He beat Dawson before Stevenson. It was at 168, but LHW has no minimum weight.

The UFC's not going to give up Conor McGregor (the only bankable star they have at the moment), so I doubt that HBO does anything even like that (especially with AT&T taking over HBO's parent company).

Fox, in essence, paid the UFC about what it ended up costing for a season of Game of Thrones (with the UFC excluding Fox from their 12 biggest fight cards and three McGregor PPVs).

Regardless of what the actual boxing budget is for HBO, I'd imagine AT&T being far more interested in taking the boxing money and put that towards developing their Watchmen project (or some other 10-12 episode season effort that they can go ahead and plug into their content pipelines).

Excuses, if he beat Kovalev he would be on contract instead. How do you justify his competition since? No Pascal, no Hopkins and no Ward. He is a chicken we both know it. So stfu Haymon kid. Were you personally notified of what HBO was doing? Doubt it. Lol

Yeah but when the coward refuses to fight how is it possible? As we all know he talks big but running from Kovalev and his recent competition suggest he has no interest in the fight. He is an afterthought not a true champion.

                      sticks and stones.

All the bad mouthing Adonis is typical hater propaganda by Kovalev fans. Truth is Kovalev wanted no part of Stevenson or Sullivan Barerra. Barerra was his mandatory. Instead of fighting the tough Cuban he ran to Russia and fought a cabdriver. Meanwhile they let Ward face Barrera hoping the Cuban could derail Ward from comming to lift them straps off Kovalev. Adonis is in the wings and name-calling won't change the fact. He is very physical, can box and punch and he will be a hand full for whoever wins Ward /KovAlev.
