My personal intuition is that K2 were played rather cleverly by Haymon who knew that they couldn't pursue any other fights while negotiations were ongoing and wished to avoid having a major HBO fight competing with the Dec 10th date which was to kick off the SHO winter season and must already have been in it's planning stages early in the Jacobs - GGG negotiations.
I think Haymon is playing them because he is, once again (Stevenson vs. Kovalev), very confident that DiBella/PBC will win the purse bid, and even with Danny only getting 25%, DiBella/PBC own the night! Basically, K2 needs HBO to have their backs to win the purse bid, or GGG has to vacate! I can't see HBO allowing GGG to fight on a Showtime/PBC card! Lomachenko beat Gary Russell Jr. on Showtime, but i'm not sure if Loma was signed to a HBO contract at the time.

I honestly don't know whether HBO will let GGG fight on a rival network. They may take the view that it'd do more harm to have him vacate than any ground or revenue lost to PBC / SHO would be worth. I'm still unconvinced that Haymon will want to bid high on a fight where his guy is undoubtedly going to be a considerable underdog though. Time will tell on both counts I guess.

Either way I think everyone's in agreement that this ish just needs sorting out already. Hopefully it goes to purse at the start of next week.

We don't know that HBO won't allow Golovkin to fight one off. Years ago they allowed Pernell Whitaker who was under contract to fight on Showtime vs JCC. If HBO forced Golovkin to vacate to Showtime's Jacobs, then they'd be damaging their own product. I'm willing to bet the house they'd allow Golovkin to go off network for one fight, especially since Showtime would have to pay through the nose for a fight the HBO guy is heavily favored in.

Think about it, Showtime/PBC would spend atleast $6mill to have GGG come on to their network, KO Jacobs, then leave back to HBO. Sounds like a joke of an investment for Showtime/PBC to pay all that money and have your guy get clobbered on your dime and in front of your viewers.

If Haymon's plan was to win a purse bid and hope that Golovkin would have to vacate, then he would've immediately requested a purse bid. That's exactly what they did with the Stevenson/Kovalev situation. Main Events talked with GYM about delaying the purse bid so that Kovalev could take care of his IBF mando first, but GYM/Haymon requested an early purse bid.

Time will tell! My belief is K2 doesn't want a purse bid, and the only question is why?

Naturally, we’re trying to work out a deal to avoid going to purse bid,” where a 75-25 split would be in play, “so we’re both happy,” Loeffler said. “There is still a deadline out there, but in the discussions right now, the time pressure is off.”

Loeffler is negotiating with Al Haymon, Jacobs’ manager and head of Premier Boxing Champions.

Negotiations for a Gennady Golovkin-Daniel Jacobs middleweight title fight remain active, but they won’t be concluded in time to allow for a bout by Dec.10 as originally planned.

K2 wants a Jacobs fight, otherwise they have to fight Alphonso Blanco and that's a setback. GGG would take nothing but criticism fighting another 'Wade'-level mandatory. Jacobs on the other hand would be a quality name for his resume, and give him some leverage negotiating with Alvarez.

Hopefully the negotiation period ends today, and there's a purse bid on Monday. This has gone on too long.

I agree, a purse bid is long overdue! WBA, make it happen! Let's see who really wants this fight!

That quote is not in the article.

Sanchez states in the article that the concern is around GGG taking another fight without the WBA situation cleared up, and the WBA could then strip GGG. There is nothing in the article about GGG's side dropping a belt voluntarily for any reason.

I know who doesn't. You scoundrel, pathetically hoping for a Haymon winning bid and Ggg vacating.
