But I still say that the comparison Varcarcel made between Canelo giving up a belt to avoid a mando, and GGG turning down an offer to move up for a fight at SMW, is ridiculous, and a man in his position should never have said something like that.
while each case is not exactly the same, each fighter made the decision that best protects their long term earning potential, so its not surprising people see it the same.

Bring that fight to Texas or Las Vegas, and BJS will need a KO to escape with his title.

In reply to the recent comments made by World Boxing Organization President Francisco Valcarcel, I would like to remind Mr Valcarel that when I recieved the offer from Roc Nation Sports, for a fight between Gennady Golovkin and Andre Ward, at 168 lbs, to take place in the summer of 2016, Gennady was in the position of mandatory challenger to the WBC MW title, and had been guaranteed a shot at the winner of the upcoming fight between Miguel Cotto and Saul Alvarez.

If Saul Alvarez had honoured the pledge he made to the WBC and to Gennady, he would have defended the WBC and lineal MW titles against Golovkin in either the spring or late summer of 2016, which was the same time frame as the one stipulated in the offer I recieved from Roc Nation. I therefore had no alternative but to reject that offer on Gennady's behalf.
Canelos only pledge was to sign in 15 days or vacate, and he vacated before the 15 days, that would have been a dumb statement by ggg...

Huge in mexico??? Female boxing has more viewers than ggg, 1.5 mil viewers vs 21mil from canelos last fight... lol...

When Loeffler got that offer from Roc the Cotto/Canelo fight hadn't even happened yet and both fighters had signed an agreement with the WBC pledging to fight GGG next if they won it.

Loeffler had also been told by Andy Lee that he would unify against GGG in his next fight if he beat BJS.

Balanced against those promises, he had an offer from Ward asking him to sign right then for a move up to 168, in a years time, for 50% of an unknown purse.
Stop lying, canelo didnt sign a thing before the cotto fight...

Only very ****** people, or people with an agenda, would see it as the same. Nobody with an iota of intelligenge or integrity would say say that making 2 step-aside agreements with a mandatory challenger, then vacating instead of fighting him, is the same as turning down an offer to move up to a higher division.

That's a dumb statement by you. Canelo never pledged to fight GGG or vacate, you muppet!

He made 2 step-aside deals with GGG and both times he signed contracts guaranteeing to fight GGG next, if he won, and both times the WBC gave GGG guarantees that they would strip Canelo of the title if he didn't keep his word.

In the event, Canelo renaged on his promise then relinquished the title himself.

                    you got proof for that??
first cotto is the one who had the step aside deal, then it was wbc who granted canelo a voluntary defense, canelo never paid a dime or signed a contract to fight ggg... stop the lies...

There were several articles here, and at other boxing sites, which stated that both Cotto and Canelo had to sign a contract agreeing that the winner of their fight would fight GGG next as a condition of him stepping aside from his mando shot at Cotto.

Same thing with when GGG stepped aside again to allow Canelo to fight Khan, though no step-aside fee was paid that time. Sulaiman stated that both Canelo and Khan were obligated to fight GGG next if they won, or be stripped of the title.

If Canelo hadn't told GGG he was going to fight him next, what would have been the point of Golovkin stepping aside for the second time, when he wasn't paid a dime for doing it?
