It's time to **** or get off of the pot though, imo. If Daniel Jacobs backs out of the fight and drops his belt, what does he do next? The Billy Joe Saunders fight is still there (Saunders' actual profile in the US is about where Liam Sith's profile was, so it's not like it'll make a massive fight, in the US or UK), but that's about it.
Jacobs could fight Khurtsidze or Andy Lee or Hassan N'Dam, or a host of other fighters, but literally every fight would just be tick-over type fights.
Golovkin-Jacobs, in essence, is the payoff to that investment; it's a massive fight for Jacobs, a victory in that fight makes Jacobs a star in NYC, and (even in possible defeat) Jacobs is all of 29 years old (with more than enough time to still go with those tick-over fights and get positioned for another shot).
