Comments Thread For: Sanchez: If GGG Breaks Hopkins' Record, Mayweather May Come

Oh my God!! I'm a Mayweather fan, but I am so tired of all of these Mayweather Comeback scenarios. He is not the same Mayweather. He'll be 40 years old in February. Whoever beats him now would obviously have a name fighter on their resume but it wouldn't be like beating him when he was in his late 20's, early 30's. I watched some of my favorites, such as Sugar Ray Leonard get demolished in a couple fights that he would of won handily if he would of not been so far from his prime. Mayweather is no longer prime and hasn't been in the past 2 or 3 years. By the time GGG breaks Hopkins' record, Mayweather will probably be 41 or 42nyears old and GGG wouldn't be all that young either. Mayweather will only comeback for a fight that he can win or will not get beat up too bad in this stage of his career and it has to be for a huge amount of money. That money is only there if he beats Canelo. If everything goes as plan, I think beating Canelo will probably tie Hopkins record and again, setting up a Mayweather fight, he'd be like 41 years old when they fight. The fight will not happen and shouldn't happen.Comment

It has always been tied to a belt since the creation of multiple belts..Hopkins got credit for the IBF..and Calzaghe for the WBOI don't think the record is tied to singular belts. It's whether you have a belt. So the first defenses that counted were with the WBA, then a bunch with multiple belts, then the Brook fight was with the WBC, but not the WBA. It's still a "title defense" as long as you have a title on the line.Comment
