More importantly, everybody knows that the IBO is insignificant. However, in almost every article, the IBO is just summed up with Golovkin's other promoted belts. Find articles on Lara, they don't frequently rinse "WBA/IBO Champion..." in every header. Gee I wonder why...

I don't think the record is tied to singular belts. It's whether you have a belt. So the first defenses that counted were with the WBA, then a bunch with multiple belts, then the Brook fight was with the WBC, but not the WBA. It's still a "title defense" as long as you have a title on the line.
