A quick Google search will show you that near every source that came up waited till 10 days after the event to post numbers on the PPV buys.
You can always see how the numbers are projecting prior to making an official announcement.

That aside I'm almost certain that the numbers from Canelo/Smith were very dismal. It was a fight that few fans had interest in, and a fight that nobody asked for. Even my extreme diehard friends skipped out on this one.

Are you serious LMAO you GGG fanboys are so damn delusional. GGG can't even get PPV dates from his own network. HBO will not give him another PPV unless he fights Canelo because the one time they did he flopped. Yet HBO execs just last week said Canelo can get a PPV date whenever he tells them he wants to fight. So even HBO is telling you who the clear A side is. GGG's fight with Brook just did LESS viewers then his fight last year with Murray did. Meaning he hasn't grown jack since last year while Canelo just filled 52,000 to see him fight smith.

Whenever they fight Canelo will clearly be the A side and the one bringing the fans to the table.

That may have been your circle, which is your opinion. My experience was quite different.

Didn't buy the PPV (last PPV that I physically purchased at home was likely the Mayweather-Alvarez fight, though I do plan on buying Kovalev-Ward if I don't end up going to Vegas or heading to a party), but the usual PPV bar seemed to have plenty of interest in the fight (nowhere near the type of interest that you'd see for a Mayweather fight, but about where the interest was for Alvarez-Khan, with the bar full though not packed come bell time).

You add that the live attention was what it was, with an assumption that HBO likely marketed the fight (I haven't had HBO for years, so who knows what they did to highlight their PPV), and the fight likely did just fine.

Alvarez has crossed over beyond simply the diehard boxing audience.

The live screening of GGG/Brook was only slightly lower than GGG/lemieux and it was screened again later, at a better time. The combined figures were much higher.

"That's because everybody who watched it live tuned in and watched it again a few hours later doe" Yeah right!

Wait till the numbers for Canelo vs Smith come out. That will give us an idea of how much of a hit his popularity has taken because of the fiasco with the WBC belt, and whether he's still a PPV star in his own right, without a star opponent.

What if Canelo/Smith only does say, around 250/300k, and later in the year, GGG does as well or better than that vs Jacobs?

Then let's say GGG fights Zurdo Ramirez on PPV next year, and that fight does better than Canelo's next PPV show with Canelo's own Mexican American fan base. Who would be the A side with HBO next Sept ... GGG or Canelo?

I'm not saying that's what will happen, but it's definitely a possibilty.

Don't forget one of the statements you baby Gs are using is there are no big fights at 168. Everything is wait on Canelo but if that doesn't happen what is plan B? Also remember he's going to destroy Canelo like he did the other C- level fighters so how would that be a legacy fight?
if canelo don't face golovkin in the future he will always have that blatant duck over his record....all through our history champions had to face a fearsome boxer and were given no chance to win....all of them never ducked a challenge because as a champion it's an obligation to face off with the best in there divsion ...Paterson did it with Liston , Frazier with foreman ...Michael spinks with Tyson ....Ken Buchanan with Duran .....they enever ducked and avoided a fight so when you talk about legacy you talk about a fighters heart when going up against his most fearsome challenger......canelo has avoided his so far and even dropped a division to avoid golovkin...so don't talk to me about canelos superirority legacy lol....dimwit

            • Loeffler made a counter-offer

It’s becoming inevitable that the Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin middleweight super fight won’t be held until September of next year, at the earliest.

That remains Golden Boy Promotions’ target date, and Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 has submitted a counteroffer for a match on that date.

Alvarez has an avulsion fracture in his right thumb and won’t be able to fight for the rest of 2016. Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya has repeatedly said Alvarez wants a fight at 160 before he faces Golovkin.

Thus, that means it’s likely that Alvarez would take a middleweight bout on Cinco de Mayo weekend in May and then face Golovkin in the fall.

“Our position is that we’d like to do that fight [with Alvarez] as soon as possible, and to be honest with you, we’d rather have done it this past May,” Loeffler told Yahoo Sports. “But Golden Boy really wants it to be next September, so that’s what they’re working toward.”

Loeffler finds himself in an unusual position then, working on fights for Golovkin on two fronts. He’s negotiating with WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs for a bout that looks like it would be Dec. 10 on HBO if it were to be finalized.

At the same time, he has begun talks with Golden Boy for the 2017 match with Alvarez that looms as the most significant fight that can be made in the sport at this point.

“I made a formal counterproposal to Golden Boy which would guarantee Canelo not only the A-side billing in the marketing of the fight but from a financial standpoint, it would be clearly his biggest purse possible for any fight out there,” Loeffler said. “Naturally, it would also be Gennady’s biggest but I think this offer was skewed the wrong way. It was pushed as so big to Gennady, but you have to remember, at the same time, it would be Canelo’s biggest also.”

Loeffler said he was willing to concede many points. He’s not interested in battling over venue or things such as who walks out first and who is introduced last.

His goal is to get the fight done while maximizing the revenue potential.

“Our proposal to Golden Boy is that we would go wherever the maximum revenue would be,” Loeffler said. “We’d give them the final choice if the bids were competitive or equal. The location won’t be negatively impacted from our side. Gennady has proven he can sell out in New York, L.A. and London, so whether fight is in Las Vegas, [Madison Square Garden], Texas, if they make a bid, we’re not going to be sticklers. Wherever the best offer is, we’re OK with.”

That is true, but the fight ONLY GGG can generate for Canelo needs to be split by PPV sales, not equally, maybe 60-40 or 55-45, but Canelo will make a career high purse from the fight, GGG should also be compensated accordingly.

that goes to show you that media a/k/a boxing news piked their side/darling and chose to demonize the other team. Sad but true, again Oscar never ever said Loeffer rejected the offer he only said he has not herd from them.
