A- to me in that he's not someone I'd unreservedly bet on no matter the opponent. To call him a B fighter though is pretty insulting. Canelo's clearly very good, however his actions might paint him.

B+. Lara, Floyd and Trout performances shows his limitations. He won't fight or mentions the Charlo bros or Jrock. He ran away from triple G.

He has skills, good upper body movements and nice fast combos. He is not a monster puncher like some think and his legs are slow

vargas fought legitimately great fighters with great power when he was a very young man, and he was never the same. felix trinidad is one of the hardest punchers ever. to give you some perspective of just how young and used up vargas is / was, he's not even 40 yet. really. he's in his 30's.

if you don't see his skills it is on you. he could have been a heck of a fighter if he didn't run into felix trinidad when he was in his early 20's.

canelo could easily have a loss to lara. wright > lara. just trust if you don't get it .

some people thought he lost to trout, but i'm not one of them. again, if you don't think vargas walks through the aging cottos and the james kirklands of the world it is on you! he was a very polished boxer - puncher with one of the great trainers of his era.

I think 22 year old Vargas and prime Tito would beat Canelo.

I think Ike Quartey would have beat Canelo as well.

To answer the poll, Canelo is a solid B. He's overrated by some fans, but he's still a very good fighter.

A-... Like it or not he's got skills & a resume to back it up.. Thing is, Golovkin could be A/A+ level talent which would be evident if they fought.

High than A- I doubt it.. Prime Floyd, Manny, Bradley, & Cotto would school him, and they're all 147lbers

He has been very carefully matched. Every time he stepped up in competition, the decisions got tightter and tighter. B to B+

Wow, cannot believe Vargas is still in his 30's. Seems so long ago that he was a top level fighter.

He was never the same after that brutal Trinidad war. One of the ever fights I've ever seen by the way.

He went from having an iron chin to get knocked over with ease after the Trinidad KO. And he took some serious bombs in that fight before finally getting finished.

I think he just barely makes it into the elite class and he is getting better with every fight. He is in the top 10 pound for pound best fighters in the world in my book and that makes him elite. Avoiding the GGG fight doesn't make him any less of a fighter. Martinez, Cotto, Jacobs, Saunders, Kid Chocolate and Eubank all avoided GGG too.
