He's a C fighter. He's not quite good enough to be a B level fighter, as that's the category where I put fighters like Golovkin and Kovalev. A level fighters are guys like Mayweather, Ali, Ward and Crawford.

vargas was done by the time he fought shane, and the wright fight just wasn't an "exposure." i'd be genuinely surprised if you've seen that fight by the way you talk about it.

vargas fought legitimately great fighters with great power when he was a very young man, and he was never the same. felix trinidad is one of the hardest punchers ever. to give you some perspective of just how young and used up vargas is / was, he's not even 40 yet. really. he's in his 30's.

if you don't see his skills it is on you. he could have been a heck of a fighter if he didn't run into felix trinidad when he was in his early 20's.

canelo could easily have a loss to lara. wright > lara. just trust if you don't get it .

some people thought he lost to trout, but i'm not one of them. again, if you don't think vargas walks through the aging cottos and the james kirklands of the world it is on you! he was a very polished boxer - puncher with one of the great trainers of his era.

Im not sure GGG is ever going to get the opposition in his career to end up proving hes an A+ fighter like mayweather etc, unless he goes in there and blasts someone like canelo out in a couple of rounds.
So Canelo and his resume only B+ and g string and his resume A-, interesting...................

Lara beat him but the judges gave it to Canelo as a gift

yeah im basing it on mix of skills and CV, canelo got the better wins but hes also been schooled silly and struggled against 'good' fighters. GGG has barely lost a round but opposition hasnt been as good. My hunch is that skillwise GGG is the better fighter, comfortably, and bookies odds would reflect that i imagine.

If he was in a video game he'd be ranked between 89-91 by me, out of 100.
yeah i prefer that way of rating fighters, like in a video game. Someone did a good thread with video game style ratings but it never really took off.

A-/B+ for me. I'm including ability to shed so much weight in the rating. We can b1tch and moan that he rehydrates to 175+ while fighting at 154/155, and while it sucks, that **** does take a ton of discipline to maintain.

A+ . Wins over Austin Trout ( undefeated WBA Champ), Erislandy Lara ( current #1. @ 154) , and Miguel Cotto ( Lineal) ****s all over most of the top ten wins in the P4P list....so what Kovalev beats old man Hopkins and Lil G string fighting bums...but they elite tho! The ' Cash Cow '/ Face of Boxing Young Money!

i was going to penalise him for basically fighting smaller fighters cause of how much he rehydrates, but then again if hes sticking to the criteria and making the weight limit, i cant really complain, suppose thats a skill in itself. Unless hes got chemical assistance for it.
