Not defending hard, not saying they'd be scared. If they were comfortable making MW and if there weren't any big money fights at this hypothetical SMW division, then why would they move up?

He didn't say he will never fight at 168. He said he's not moving up / leaving 160.

And you damn know money wise he's right to stay at 160.

Nelo is a bigger fight than De Gale, Jacobs a bigger fight than Jack, BJS a bigger fight than Ramirez.

He could fight a Andrade or Charlo in the next years, they probably will outgrow 154.

Even before SMW existed, the MW limit was still 160lbs. It always has been.

Would Hagler and Monzon have fought at 168 if they'd had the option?

Only if they thought they could make more money there than at 160.

          • Metho_4u,

So he's going to wait around for another full year hoping he gets the canelo fight, and what? Fight more welterweights? Who the hell is at 160? Who do you think he'd get more credit for? Waiting for Canelo, or moving up and possibly seek greatness fighting Jack, Degale, etc, etc? This is why he's making less, rather than the 13 million khan made. Nope, won't do a cw...154-168 doe right? You just said that he'd move up for a huge ppv (you think), but he won't move to 155 and fight Canelo? That's been the biggest fight he could've made! Nope, no catchweights.
Why would he fight more WW's? Brook wasn't planned. He was a last minute replacement for Eubank. Who's at 160? Well there's some good fights there if he can get them. But that's the problem. It's whether he can get them. But I would be more than happy to see him fight Canelo, Jacobs, BJS and Eubank. A Jack fight at SMW isn't really appealing, unless he was to beat DeGale and Ramirez and establish himself as the main man at the weight. I'd love to see GG fight DeGale at some point. But DeGale is currently focusing all his intentions on Jack, as he wants to unify. So if GG could get those MW fights within the next 12-18 months, that would be great and he could then move up to SMW afterwards. Regarding Canelo, it wouldn't have made any difference if GG had've jumped at the chance to fight him at 155. Because Oscar doesn't want the fight yet regardless of the weight.

Interestingly enough, he wants to unify at 160...that's fine, he could get a fight at 168.. win or lose he's still the 160 lb champion and could go right back down and continue to unify the last of the division.
It's never that simple is it. It's not a good idea moving up and then coming back down, but the opportunity also has to be there. He's also now got mandatory obligations from 3 of the 4 Org's.

The only difference is how uncomfortable he would make GGG. Golovkin is 160 champ, Brook wants those titles, he should fight at 160.

Its not like Brook doesnt walk around at 185 and was 176 thirty days out. GGG was 11 pounds lighter.

The same fans who now criticize ggg for fighting Brook (who is heavier than him before, during and after fights), would demand he go 15 pounds north.

GGG will never be heavier than Ward is, but the same haters will ignore this.

There are frauds here all right, but it is not Golovkin.
Stay salty that your hero, is fighting a career welterweight and calling it his biggest challenge, while he himself refuses to move up or down to make fights that people actually care about.

Lol, yes they are right now.. what about after your boyfriend fights the WW? Maybe then he could look into that?

I'm sorry, when did vaGGGina make 147 last? Oh yeah, he didn't...typical triple asswipe fans trying to use 30 day weight as a gauge.

No no, you said a weight he's comfortable at, I guess only his comfort counts...we'll get him a lazy boy to make him comfortable then.

Brook was a last minute replacement to salvage the event and HBO's long standing date. There was never going to be a CW. You have to take into account that GG he already signed to fight Eubank at MW. He'd handed the contract back in. When the fight was made official, it was exactly 9 weeks to the weigh-in. A press conference was quickly together and then the fighters started their camps the following week.
