Bob Arum tries to shop the **** fight to other networks, no one bites (with Kovalev-Ward happening in November, and Ward owing no fights to HBO after that point, Showtime is likely in play for, if not signing Ward to a longterm deal, finally securing the Stevenson unification fight), and Bob Arum is left with having to risk his own money, presenting the PPV under his Top Rank banner (likely pairing any PPV with a streaming outlet on their site).

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, though not all the way there just yet, is a budding superstar whose only defeat was to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Alvarez did over $7m at the gate for the Khan fight, sold over 40k tickets for his last fight in Texas against Kirkland, and will likely end up selling 50k-60k tickets for the Liam Smith fight.

Whether you think the fight is worthy or not, Alvarez is at the point where he's selling 400k+ PPVs for his fight (the Smith fight, depending on what the media push ends up looking like, likely does 500k-600k PPVs), and his starpower is still developing (likely helped along better if he can ever get conversational in English).

Alvarez-Smith is a better fight than Pacquiao-Vargas, competition wise and financially.

-Floyd Mayweather Jr is never fighting again; there's not enough money even possible to entice him to come back, and he was shown to be in clear decline during the Berto fight (though he basically won every round, he looked nowhere near as good as he's usually looked in the ring).

Kovalev-Ward is going to do significantly more than 200k PPV buys, for the simple reason that the fight is a big one and will be invested in; HBO is likely to commit 2-3 episodes of 24/7 to the fight, Kellerman's tie-in with ESPN and the fact that it's a big fight will have the bout pushed on ESPN, and Ward's profile will help bring additional promotional efforts to the fight (Rosie Perez bringing Andre Ward back to The View, the New York radio circuit, etc).

Pacquiao-Vargas is unlikely to get no such attention (MGM Resorts wants no part of Pacquiao, Pacquiao can no longer go on the Jimmy Kimmel Show due to his comments, and the fact that Pacquiao wants his full camp to be in the PI likely means the other media heading out his way will be nill)

Your probably right that Mayweather isn't coming back but if he decides he wants to makes another 100 million it'll probably be against Pac that's all Im saying and I'm suprised HBO got out of the race

I posted in a thread a coupke months ago that Kov/Ward would do 30-350k now Indont believe it will be anywhere near that , I'm going with 100-200k I don't give a f.uck if Max dedicates a week of first take to the fight Having 2 fights 3 weeks apart is going to hurt both PPVs and it'll be test is there more hardcore boxing fans wanting to watch and pay for 2 top 5 P4P guys fighting to see who #1 or fans of superstar boxer in the twilight of his career in a fight most didn't ask for but have shown that they'll pay for these type of matchups , I'm going with the second option. I doubt they do a 3 episode traditional 24/7 for this probably just a episode featuring each fighter at best, Jay-Z, Rosie Perez & Charlamagne aren't going to be bringing the #s up

Pac/ Rios, Algieri , Bradley 3 all did in the 300-350k range he has a built in audience his last fight was a bomb by his standards but still did 6.4 at the gate, Canelos khan was a sucess and did 7.4, I would guess that the Vargas does in that range especially with a decent undercard and it'll beat Kov /Ward at the gate and PPV #s

PAC should have stayed retired. This is embarrassing, poor guy just shared his religious views.

Notice if a high profile ****** Imam says the same thing, it is mentioned, but not dwelt on like PAC's words.

I might be crazy, but I don't think Showtime will want the fight either. Maybe ESPN PPV

They might just have to settle fighting on regular HBO or such.
And I also think this really has nothing to do with his anti gay comments.

I think just like HBO felt about Mosley Vs Pacquiao, they know this fight is not gonna sell or atlest won't turn a profit.
