Where does RJJ rate on your alltime lists??

Roy Jones Jr haters may not apply

I am a massive Roy Jones Jr fan and of late it destoy`s me to see the great man losing fights against Tarver and Johnson when five years ago he would have showboated the way to a stoppage win, I was just wondering where in your Alltime lists would Roy Jones Jr be when he was at his best??

I know before people state it that he didnt fight Benn Eubanks and Collins this has already been said but the Fighters that he has fought and the Belts which he captured where does he stand???

He didnt fight the best Europeans, who just happened to be great fighters at the same weight as Jones junior at the same time. Guys like Benn would have a legit chance of Koing him, guys like Eubank would have a legit chance of giving him a nightmare, and Collins was looking indestructable in the second Eubank fight onwards. In Europe, the likes of Dariusz(Michalczewski) and Rocky(Rocchigiani).

I dont think he was at his best at 160,Roy,I mean Hopkins looked better against Roy than he did against Mercado. But at 168 he hit his peak, although Toney was clearly not his usual self you can even look past that fight and see his five defences where he looks almost superhuman in all. At 175,his best accomplishment is Virgil Hill who was coming off a loss.

So on a head to head basis he is probably the best ever at 168,but there were many too many guys he didnt fight for him to be considered a true great.

The likes of Robinson and Ali cleared up,they came to Europe too.

I`m from Britain and found that the refereeing over here and in Many other european countries a Joke especially Germany, I very much doubt any of the fighters that you have talked about would have beaten Roy and the only one that would have had a chance against a lean mean RJJ would have been McClellan apart from him I really cant see Benn Collins or Eubanks beating him and in various news columns Benn has even stated this, Roy Jones Jr is a fighters fighter in the mold of fighters such as SRR and SRL muhammed Ali if you like,

It`s has Don King put it people:

I'm not sure at Super Middle it would be easy to put Jones as number one, its a shame he didn't fight the Likes of Benn, Eubank, Collins and Calzaghe in the 90's and I think that tarnishes his excellent record, outside of Toney he never really tested himself at Super Middle, yes he was a great fighter no doubt but I always wonder why he did not stretch himself too often (perhaps he was that good?)
At Light Heavy he distinguished himself better I feel but again I would rate Billy Conn and Archie Moore above him in the all time rankings.
For sure he is one of the best of his generation but for me he always left me wanting more, buts that's just my opinion.

I'm from Britain also, the refereeing here is generally good, there are poor referees in every country, besides for Title fights the governing body appoints the referee so he could be from any nationality!
The judging in many European countries is questionable but again it is in the States at times, remember Holyfield v Lewis 1!
Again as good as Jones was I do not believe he cemented his place in history by beating all comers around, the losses recently do leave a sour taste in the mouth but we shouldn't forget how good he was!

If I were a boxer the one man I would not want to step in the ring with that was in his prime would be Roy Jones Jr. I would rather get my ass handed to me in the first, or second round by a prime Tyson, than have to deal with Roy for eight, or more rounds, and then have to go back, and look at the tapes in embarrassment. He made a lot of boxers look ****** for a very, very long time.
I put him at number 5 on my list of all time greats, but he certainly had the skills of any boxer I ranked above him.

Roy J.J is my undisputed all time pound for pound number one on a who beats who basis

I saw him be the first man to stop future WBC champion Sugar Boy Malinga, literally playing with him

I saw him make James Toney look like a novice

I saw the fastest jabs of all time in his fight with Vinny Pazienza

I saw Vinny Pazienza almost out on his feet without the referee stopping the thing which caused Roy to just simply shrug his shoulders and deliver the most perfect six-punch combination I have ever seen thrown to finish it there and then

I saw him stop Virgil Hill with a body shot that sounded like a ******* going off

I saw a man who had been tortured by his father his whole childhood in the Thomas Tate and Montell Griffin II fights and it was scarey

I saw him knockout some guy with a counter punch that started with his hands behind his back

I saw a man who had started his career a 154 become the heavyweight champion of the world for goodness sake

The only fighter who would of even had a chance of beating Roy J.J between 160 and 175 in the 90`s is Eubank, only because Eubank was the most awkward and strangest fighter in boxing

I still think of Roy Jones as an all-time great. The Last few losses diminish little for me.I would definetly but him in the top 50.But probadly near the end of that list.
