    like what?

floyd's got a better resume because he went from 130 to 154 and was the best fighter on the planet, and he was undefeated over a 20 year hall of fame career, but who is a better win than moving up to beat a prime kovalev?

barring kovalev having a bad rest of his career, of course, but i ddon't think that's going to happen. if he was going to be exposed as something less than we thought he was, it would have happened by now. two fights with pascal, fight with hopkins, sillakh, cleverly, we'd know by now.
I hate bringing it up but at the time of the fight corrales was prime, bigger, and higher ranked p4p fighter than Floyd. Take the ratings how you will but if I recall Floyd was 5 and Chico 3.

He has a few guys of similar ratings to Kovalev. Hernandez, Corrales, Castillo. All 3 of those guys have similar if not better resumes than Kov. And all were prime fighters.

No I think people I forgetting how truly deep Floyd's resume is. He has the record for most former and current champions beaten.

As much as I like Kovalev, he's not yet above fighters like Corrales or Castillo, and he's definitely not better than even a past prime Manny Pacquiao.

It is very possible (maybe even likely) that Kovalev will be better than that a few years from now, but he's not right now.

he's higher ranked than castillo and chico corrales were p4p.
i guess one can make the argument for corrales, but would you?

and manny was arguably higher p4p than kovalev, but let's face it, manny pacquiao hasn't been manny pacquiao for a long, long time. that guy was incredible in his prime, and the guy floyd fought was much more tame and had lost a lot physically.

personally, i think that if manny and kovalev were the same size that kovalev would knock manny out if they fought in october. that's more of a testament to manny fading than anything else, obviously, but floyd fought him a bit over a year ago, and when he was way, way past it.

He's higher ranked than those guys but why? Because of the era he fights in. His resume isn't better.

And you can say what you want about Pac, but after the Floyd fight, he came back and beat a top talent in Bradley rather easily. That Bradley trumps all of Kovs wins tbh.

castillo was never considered one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world, and neither was genero hernandez. my posts above address all of that.

i guess one can make the argument for corales, but would you? he wasn't ranked as highly pound for pound as kovalev, either. kovalev's top 2 p4p right now on a lot of reputable lists.

Once again, that has a lot more to do with the eras they fight in. P4p lists are very subjective and things like who's fighting when you are fighting matter. Look at the lists from the time Floyd fought those guys. Kovalev wouldn't be near the top of any of those lists.

With Ward beating Froch, Dawson, Kov, and still undefeated. Thats a very impressive resume, especially if he beats Kov easy. Thats not enough to surpass floyd, even tho i think the win over Kov is probably better than any of Floyds wins. If he fights and beats stevenson and a few others, then i can see it.
