Ward > Mayweather jr ATG status if he beats Kovolov?

Does Ward become a greater boxer than little floyd on the all time greats list if he defeats Kovolov? I persinally already think Ward is greater than him but you know money makes the world go round and people look past great boxing accomplishments due to admiring the almighty dollar.

Nobody will want to hear this, but I had Ward as P4P #1 after the Super 6 and Dawson. And, I wasn't even a fan then. Should he beat Kov and get in at least a couple other reasonable fights before retirement, I might place him above Floyd. Beating Kovalev doesn't do enough surpass Floyd's whole resume.

No, Ward has a shot though to be better. Ward tells people he's going to clear out 175 and go to 200 and if he feels good try heavyweight. This is what he tells his friends. This would make him greater even with losses.

As long as Ward remains active he surely has a shot to surpass Floyd. If he cleans up 175 beating Kov, Stevenson, Beterbiev etc, I think at that point you could make the argument. Kov alone at 75 doesn't cut it.

He's a long way from surpassing Floyd. But he's one of the few active fighters who have a chance.

Definitely not. Great win, but Mayweather has more than a handful that are better and more that are at least comparable.

Absolutely not. I like Kovalev, but his reputation and resume are extremely overrated. His best wins are Pascal and 50 year old Hopkins.

Ward would need to beat Kovalev and at least 3 other legitimate contenders to even enter the conversation as a possibility. A win over Kovalev gets him into the HOF.

No though he's capable of doing it barring where he goes after the Kov fight. He doesn't necessarily need to clear out 175, but he'll need to beat someone decent at HW to surpass Floyd on the all-time list among other things. He surely is capable if he's willing to put in the effort.

no, but he'll have a win over a prime, undefeated, bigger pound for pound fighter, which is better than anything on floyd's resume. floyd's got better "names" [pacquiao, de la hoya, mosley,] but they were not at their peaks by any means, and pacquiao is markedly smaller than floyd.

barring kovalev having a bad rest of his career, of course, but i ddon't think that's going to happen. if he was going to be exposed as something less than we thought he was, it would have happened by now. two fights with pascal, fight with hopkins, sillakh, cleverly, we'd know by now.
