Canelo and Golovkin are Pulling a Mayweather/Pacquiao

They did try to make heavier weight fights, not against Ward, but they tried Froch and they tried Chavez Jr (who is a scrub), they talked about making the Gilberto Ramirez fight (i know its all talk right now, but it seems like they are aiming to get this fight next year). They fought Murray (who is a big middleweight), If GGG regularly looks at smaller guys to makes fights he would lose me as a fan fast... thought to be honest i would still watch him fight because he employs my favorite style to watch (seek and destroy). But they've been taking what they can get for how many years now? I don't want to make it seem like he's bum chasing. But they have no sense of urgency to take a big risk because they are making good money and have the machine behind them. Obviously they WANT to land the big names. But if they don't....who cares? They're getting good money, they have a logical reason why they are taking underwhelming fights, and boxing's fanbase is casual and doesn't even know that weight classes and rankings exist.
Every year it's either a mando or a take what we can get fight. They were talking a lot of **** about how Canelo was a business man, Khanelo was a business fight and how it disgraced the MW championship.....Now....he's fighting a welterweight, himself in a business fight. That whole media tour was just a gimmick.
At what point do you just say **** it and move up in weight and challenge yourself? Canelo clearly will not take this fight unless GGG is at a disadvantage or shows signs of slowing down. We've seen this throughout boxing's history.Comment

Khan and Brook are going on suicide missions because if they lose they already have an excuse in place.
Canelo is ducking because he can and has a fanbase that will pay to see him fight me.
GGG is just smiling and enjoying these easy paydays.Comment

Both Sugar ray and Duran were career Walterweights. before they fought Hagler... and for the record Sugar Ray was retired for 3 years before he came back so i think that is a little bit worse.Comment

I don't agree. For one thing, Golovkin was majorly pushing for the fight, to the point Canelo had to give up the belt. That's not marination. When you realise the dude isn't going to fight you, you move on.
Golovkin has also been avoided/priced out by Sturm, Martinez, Quillin, Jacobs, Cotto, Canelo, Saunders, and now Eubank since he's been at middleweight. He doesn't have huge options - your list is really bad, to be frank.
The Eubank fight was a great money fight, and he would have been exposed to the UK market (which is becoming a major player). Once Eubank Sr and Jr start messing around, it's obvious Loeffler was offered the Brook fight by Hearn (who, we can assume, had had enough of the Eubanks and has now totally left them looking foolish). Loeffler, being given the same terms as the Eubank fight, thought......"yeah, why not?". Why scratch around for another opponent when you're offered one on the same terms, and one that be concluded super-quick?
I don't particularly like the fight but the outrage is tiresome. Let's just be completely honest about how this fight came out. It wasn't a calculated cherry pick - they were offered a fight in the UK on the same terms, and on paper an easier fight. They took it.Comment

What happens when the best aren't fighting the best? Canelo/Khan, GGG/Brook, Jacobs/Mora and Saunders/TBA. GGG/Brook is rightfully happening in the UK, and the weight differential turns the fight into a spectacle. If K2 made match-ups with any of the opponents you named, it would be consider a failure because it isn't Canelo/Saunders/Jacobs. If they're gonna make a less-than-ideal matchup, it might as well be Brook as it'll bring (negative) attention. After the fight, the Eubanks will probably jump into the ring and get dramatic. The match-up sucks, but the event has potential. If GGG/Brook is successful, it sets the stage for GGG vs. Eubank/Saunders. In the meantime, I hope Eubank comes to Brooklyn and fights Jacobs.
I'm just glad it's not on HBO PPV.Last edited by kiaba360; 07-08-2016, 03:47 PM.Comment

So fighting Leonard for 12 million plus in 1987 was worse? Sugar Ray Leonard? Also, Leonard and Duran won titles at 154 and both were infinitely more accomplished than Brook. Kell has never even fought above 147.
Your comparisons are as silly as they are inaccurate.Comment
